It's official: our first close of Series A is in the books at $18M, courtesy of our co-leads Woodside Energy and CM Venture Capital, along with several others. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get here, but we've still got miles to go. Thanks to the entire team for all your tireless efforts. NovoNutrients: transforming industrial waste carbon dioxide emissions into alternative protein food and feed ingredients
About us
NovoNutrients is a fundamentally new way to make the building blocks of food, using natural microbes to break down molecules and reassemble them into lowest-cost feed and food ingredients. The process's key inputs are hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Those untreated, waste emissions of CO2 can come from industrial production of cement, ethanol, pulp, paper, fuels, or many other products. Gasification, SMR, and electrolysis (of water) all produce hydrogen. The latter means our tech will be a conduit from generating clean power to storing food energy. Advantaged in cost, quality, and sustainability, we’ll initially disrupt the aquaculture portions of two large feed ingredient markets: additives and “fishmeal”, the protein feed ingredient made from fish (soon $40B and $12B, respectively). Our initial market focus is protein for seafood farming, but the company is also starting to put similar resources into developing products to accelerate a global transition away from all conventional meat and fish. CEO, NovoNutrients: capture megatons of carbon and cleanly feed the world. We’re fermenting carbon dioxide emissions and hydrogen into microbial, alternative protein ingredients for food and feed.
Join me this Wednesday morning at San Francisco's 4th #Fermentation-Enabled #AlternativeProtein Summit where I'll be chairing the "Winning Investments and Balancing the Cost and Quality of #AlternativeProteins to Unlock Full Market Potential" session. The panel: Tom Shields, AgFunder; Matt Spence, Barclays; Alice Brooks, Khosla Ventures; and Adam Bergman, Citi. They will illuminate the landscape in terms of the intricate dance of securing investment, steering through the current economic turbulence, and charting a viable path towards profitability. We'll also hear from Joshua Nixon (Prime Roots) on cost-effectiveness and product quality, as well as Arpad Csay (GEA Group) on scaling and commercialization strategies crucial to the growth of our sector. I'm happy to bring the NovoNutrients perspective. Learn more and register here:

CEO, NovoNutrients: capture megatons of carbon and cleanly feed the world. We’re fermenting carbon dioxide emissions and hydrogen into microbial, alternative protein ingredients for food and feed.
The New York Times piece by Joe Fassler highlights the struggle of the cultivated meat industry, particularly its failure to achieve affordability in growing animal cells outside of animals. In contrast, microbial cells have evolved to thrive efficiently in contexts more similar to industrial settings. Building on this foundation, companies like mine have harnessed fermentation to produce proteins sustainably and scalably. See also Nature's Fynd, The EVERY Company, and MycoTechnology, Inc. At my company, we produce proteins using healthy microbes grown on clean carbon dioxide emissions. We're a climate tech firm with remarkable alt protein technologies. The future of meat substitutes is microbes that can decouple nutrition from agriculture and fossil fuels. Compared to cultivated meat and most other approaches, our tech can introduce a significant stream of alt protein ingredients sooner, cheaper, more sustainably, and with higher nutritional value – through our unique biomass and precision fermentations. Our volumetric productivity of kilograms per cubic meter per hour is fast. And our inputs do not include expensive and resource intensive sugar, amino acids, or vitamins. As the overhyped cultivated meat industry dims and resets, NovoNutrients' technology is ready for scaling to feed the world sustainably.

There have been a lot of questions about the viability of alternatives protein as demand for plant-based proteins plateaued over the past few years. However, we are seeing the emergence of a new generation of alternative protein companies, which will be spotlighted during the 4th Fermentation-Enabled Alternative Protein Summit taking place in San Francisco on February 13th, 14th & 15th. If you want to learn more about precision and biomass fermentation, I recommend you attend the Summit, where I will be speaking on the “Crunching the Money: Demonstrating a Path to Profitability to Overcome a Challenging Macroeconomic Environment Across All Stages” investment panel, along with Alice Brooks, Khosla Ventures; Yaqi G., Lever VC; Tom Shields, AgFunder; and Matt Spence, Barclays. The panel will be moderated by David Tze, NovoNutrients Our panel with cover the following topics: · How investors benchmark alternative protein companies when assessing potential investments · Articulating the value proposition of your alternative protein to secure funding through all stages of development using effective techno-economic modeling · Navigating the current macroeconomic climate to achieve the market potential of alternative proteins Fermentation is expected to grow significantly, but companies are pursuing different strategics: · Internal production vs. outsourced production · Ingredients (B-to-B) vs. finished products (B-to-C) It remains to be seen which strategies are more effective and whether these companies will be able to have more success than many of the plant-based protein companies that came before them. https://lnkd.in/gxkDk7nX Brittany Chibe Patrick Westfall Isabella Iglesias-Musachio Irina Gerry Steve Matzke Anne Marie Butler Augusto Desuque Sarah Ham Adam Leman Ph.D. Andrea Schoen Tamir Tuller Aaron M. The writing is on the wall: alternative #aquafeed ingredients are key to sustainable aquaculture production. Aquafeed.com spoke to NovoNutrients CEO David Tze about upcycling carbon dioxide into fishmeal quality protein without the fish. “Trials in trout conducted demonstrated equivalent rates of growth and survival, as well as superior palatability, which ultimately results in less wasted feed." Plus, additional protection from pathogens and diseases. The benefits of single cell proteins are clear: less waste, higher yields, better sustainability. And not just for aquaculture, but for people and pets as well. #altprotein for all, #carboncapture for the planet! https://lnkd.in/dYidWNRC
