NTIA will loosen the letter of credit requirements for the $42.5 billion BEAD rural broadband funding program, senior agency officials told reporters in a pre-briefing yesterday. The move came in response to service providers’ concerns that the letter of credit requirements were so burdensome that the providers would not be able to apply for funding through the BEAD program. Smaller service providers that already serve large parts of rural America were especially concerned about this possibility. https://lnkd.in/gJ9KsMjN

Upping the ante...While others across the industry battle it out over 10-gig claims, Google Fiber is looking to go bigger, plotting the rollout of a symmetrical 20-gig service for select residential and business customers by the end of this year, executives told Fierce. It’s tapping into Nokia’s 25G-PON system to make the service a reality. https://lnkd.in/gyrwN5Bs
