  • NMMC Women’s Hospital recently honored registered nurse and lactation consultant Selena Davis with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond to help a new mother with breastfeeding. Because of an unexpected early delivery, the baby had to stay in the NICU. The mother needed help establishing her breastmilk supply while her baby worked on gaining enough weight to nurse. Says Selena, “She was determined to make it work, so we made it work.” After using a hospital pump for a few days, Selena helped the new mother pick out her own pump and obtain the prescription from her OB. When the new mother was unable to pick up the pump because of her recovery, Selena personally delivered all the necessary supplies to get her set up at home. The DAISY Award is a national recognition given to extraordinary nurses to honor their commitment to exceptional patient care. “This situation really highlights how much Selena cares and extends her hand whenever there is a need,” states her nomination. “Due to Selena’s efforts, the new mom was able to meet her goal of establishing and sustaining her supply while waiting for her premature baby to come home.” Selena joined the team in 2001 after obtaining her bachelor's degree in nursing. Congratulations on this recognition, Selena! We’re thankful for your dedication to new mothers and our C.A.R.E.S. Values!
