  • Former Karrinyup Rotary President, Robert Ball, who has been involved with our annual Karrinyup Rotary Nurse of the Year Awards for many years, recently saw firsthand what it was like to be cared for by nurses at Osborne Park Hospital. Robert said the extended time in hospital really made him appreciate the importance of the Karrinyup Rotary Nurse of the Year Awards and recognising nurses. "I was wearing my Rotary shirt one day and a nurse told me she had been a winner of the Nurse of the Year award," he said. "The nurses at Osborne Park Hospital have been fantastic; they work really hard and deserve to be recognised.” Sponsored by the Karrinyup Rotary Club, the annual Karrinyup Rotary Nurse of the Year Awards recognise nurses who have demonstrated innovation and excellence in health care at Osborne Park Hospital.

As part of Donate Life WA’s Jersey Day, we are reminding the community about the importance of registering as organ and tissue donors. Organ and tissue donation transforms lives and can provide a loved one with a second chance at life. One organ donor can save the lives of up to seven people and help many more through eye and tissue donation. This year National Rugby League WA has thrown its support behind Jersey Day to encourage people to start a conversation with their teammates, family and friends about signing up as organ and tissue donors. For more information or to register visit the Donate Life website. https://lnkd.in/g8RmXZuQ Australian Organ and Tissue Authority

  • Groundbreaking results from researchers at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) aims to enhance the outcomes for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Caused by a buildup of fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits or plaques on artery walls, PAD is a common condition affecting more than 230 million people worldwide. Professor Shirley and Associate Professor Juliana have found success in a new drug that attaches itself to the artery walls and breaks down the cholesterol-containing deposits. With the next step to manufacture the drug for clinical use, Professor Jansen said the drug could mean a dramatic difference to millions with the disease. "This drug could be a gamechanger for patients preventing difficulty walking and amputation," Professor Jansen said. To find out more: https://lnkd.in/gY_aDmSi
