In 1974, James R. Keel left high school to serve in Vietnam as an Aviation Boatswain’s mate with the U.S. Navy. Nearly 50 years later Keel received his high school diploma thanks to the Operation Recognition Program. Session Law 2006-260 directs the State Board of Education to issue special diplomas to all honorably discharged veterans of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War who request a high school diploma and have not previously received a high school diploma. Now that Keel received his high school diploma, he plans to enroll in Martin Community College for Welding. Congratulations Mr. Keel! Thank you for your service in the U.S. Navy, Army National Guard and leading veterans in your area as part of American Veterans Post 227.
