The new issue of the Case Research Journal has been published! This issue contains five great cases that span the world, different subject areas, and scope of decisions. Case Research Journal is published by the North American Case Research Association (NACRA). The first case from this issue that I would like to tell you about is called "Carol Aldana: Is It Time to Leave?" by JUAN PARRA. This case first came to my attention when it won an award at a NACRA conference. I had been struck by the effective storytelling and how invested I was in Carol Aldana's journey. In the case, she faces a career decision: leave her current role for a new one at a different company, which would bring uncertainty, the same salary, but the potential for better work-life balance; or stay, in a difficult work environment and for an inflexible boss, but where she had built her reputation. Complicating matters is that she was in the midst of a complicated project and did not want to leave with it unfinished. The analysis looks at why people stay and leave organizations, from the employee's point of view, and the instructor's manual includes two epilogues that extend the story and present new decision points to be covered in class. Case Research Journal cases can be adopted through many partners such as Harvard Business Publishing, Ivey Publishing, and The Case Centre. I encourage you to check out our collection of high-quality decision-focused cases with deep, comprehensive instructor's manuals.

In these last few days of 2024, in case you are thinking about your charitable giving this year, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our Case Research Foundation. The Case Research Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that supports NACRA. The CRF’s major initiative is providing Paul R. Lawrence Fellowships to doctoral students and early-career faculty members. These fellowships enable talented young scholars from around the world to attend the annual NACRA meeting, where they receive special training and are included in all conference sessions. Prominent professor Anne Lawrence led the CRF for 10 years. In 2022, she received an award from The Case Centre for 'Outstanding Contribution to Case Method' https://lnkd.in/ecVxnvwu. Professor Lawrence stepped down as CRF Chair this past October, and now the CRF is steered by another exceptional case method expert Professor Armand Gilinsky who is NACRA Fellow and Past President, having published extensively at CRJ and many other journals. In the past ten years, the Case Research Foundation has awarded 92 such fellowships. We were especially pleased to welcome 10 new PRL Fellows at the 2024 NACRA conference in Orlando this past October. We are looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of PRL Fellows next year, at our conference in Newport Beach, California, October 16-18, 2025 https://lnkd.in/gd8wcHx - if any questions, get in touch with the Conference Chair Mike Annett, PhD CPHR. It has been only a few weeks since Case Research Journal's Special Issue on Short Cases, guest edited by Grishma Shah, Ph.D and Meredith Woodwark. The issue contained eight cases that are short on reading but long on analysis, covering a variety of topics, contexts, and areas of business. Case Research Journal is published by the North American Case Research Association (NACRA). Today I am going to tell you about two of the eight cases in this issue, both involving organizations stuck in a difficult situation, though the scope varies. In one, "Boeing 2022: Fighting for a Second Chance," by W. Scott Sherman and Randall Harris, the company needs to convince the United States Congress to extend a certification deadline for the 737 MAX 10. Different approaches for convincing the government body are explored via stakeholder analysis, with an emphasis on the variable roles and power of different stakeholders. Though set in a much smaller organization, the learnings in "Rise Student Services: Software Development Project Implementation Challenges," by Jane Gravill and Cody Petrosino, are no less valuable. This student-run service at an educational institution was wrestling with how to move forward regarding an information technology decision, with the options to put more money towards the existing solution, purchase a new system, or revert to the previous process all in play. Case Research Journal cases can be adopted through many partners such as Harvard Business Publishing, Ivey Publishing, and The Case Centre. I encourage you to check out our collection of high-quality decision-focused cases with deep, comprehensive instructor's manuals.
