Heading to the movies this weekend? If you’re planning on seeing the new 🌪️#TwistersMovie 🌪️, keep an eye out for NOAA! (Yes, we make some cameo appearances!) And check out our new page, noaa.gov/twisters to find out: What’s it like to be an actual storm chaser? Can a tornado really catch fire? Are twin tornadoes possible? Is it possible to “tame a tornado”? Who actually studies these storms? (We’ll give you a hint for that last one… we do!) Pictured: Characters from the movie Twisters marvel at the awesome power of violent tornadoes as they strike across Oklahoma in a promotional poster for the movie. ICYMI: #DidYouNOAA that one of the original trailblazers of hyperbaric chamber medicine and dive training is part of the NOAA family? For decades, Dick Rutkowski treated hundreds of divers with decompression sickness in one of NOAA's very first hyperbaric chambers. 🏊♀️ Many of these divers conducted research in the HYDROLAB, an undersea research habitat where aquanauts could live on the ocean floor for days or weeks at a time. When it was time to return to dry land, aquanauts would have to spend at least 16 hours in hyperbaric treatment to avoid getting decompression sickness. Listen to Dick's account of the HYDROLAB, NOAA's early Man-in-the-Sea program and hyperbaric medicine as part of our #OceanMonth edition of the #PlanetNOAA Podcast: https://lnkd.in/e2EuuARp #OceanMonthNOAA

We're celebrating National Small Business Week with a new #NOAASBIR success story about two NOAA-funded small businesses that are partnering to help marine mammals and fishermen with innovative ropeless fishing gear technology. When a #SmallBusiness uses NOAA #SeedFunding to transform an idea into a technology that is available on the open marketplace, it is a big win for both the company and the NOAA Small Business Innovation Research program. But it is a unique double-win when two NOAA-funded small businesses team up to combine their innovative technologies for a good cause.
