Thankful Thursday - Today The Gary Sinise Foundation dedicated our 93rd specially adapted smart technology home which is the 11th such home in Southern, CA for severely wounded US Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Dennet Oregon and his family. A truly inspirational day indeed! Today we witnessed "paying it forward" with many friends, family, neighbors, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) from Temecula and Murrietta fire stations, numerous GSF corporate partners, individual donors, and five previous severely wounded heroes whom GSF has provided specially adapted smart technology homes United States Marine Corps CPL. (Ret.) Jose Armenta, MsBA, CFP®, ChFC®, CLU®, EA, United States Marine Corps CPL. (Ret.) Josue Barron, and several Gary Sinise Foundation Ambassadors United States Marine Corps Captain (Ret.) Sarah Bettencourt, United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Brandon Dodson, and US Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Doc Jacobs helped celebrate this amazing day with the Oregon family! Today, we are proud to dedicate a mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home to U.S. Army Veteran Dennet Oregon. At just 19, inspired by the events of 9/11, Dennet joined the military and served in Afghanistan before suffering life-altering injuries from an IED explosion. After enduring 18 months of intense treatment, he lost both legs below the knee but remained dedicated to serving his country. Now, Dennet and his family will have a home built for his needs, allowing them to live comfortably and focus on building new memories together. We are truly honored to provide this home for Dennet, a testament to his service, resilience, and the incredible strength of his family. It’s our privilege to support him in this next chapter of life. "Since I left Walter Reed Hospital, everywhere I've lived I haven't been able to use my wheelchair," said Dennet. "I've had to put it in storage. I'm going to actually use my wheelchair here. That alone is going to make a huge difference."
