This housing market study done in my town of Charleston, SC further shines light on the crisis that faces A/I/DD adults and their families when it comes to planning for a time when a family caregiver can no longer be the primary support. "Adults with A/I/DD encounter more challenges connecting with individuals outside their biological family. Eighty-nine percent report loneliness and 44% have faced discrimination due to disability....50% are concerned they will be abused and 38% fear they may become homeless." Thank you to SOS Care, First Place AZ, Make Waves Center for Community Development, and all of the passionate families and organizations that are trying to push this boulder up the hill. So much to be done. https://lnkd.in/e5Fft_7g

I am beyond grateful for Arc Tank, Northeast Arc and Multiple for entrusting our team at NFlyte with this funding made possible by Steven P. Rosenthal ! This is a huge opportunity for us and we are excited to show you what a difference this will make for continuing our mission to support autistic and IDD adults with independent living support needs and their families. I am humbled and amazed by the effort and heart that went into organizing and executing this event.
We are thrilled to announce the winners of Arc Tank 5.0 powered by Multiple! Our panel of experts awarded $247,500 to three ideas that promise to improve the lives of people with disabilities or autism. This funding is made possible through the Changing Lives Fund, which was established via a gift to Northeast Arc by Steven P. Rosenthal, founder of West Shore. Stay tuned for more photos and videos from an incredible day at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum! If you missed the event, watch it in full here: https://lnkd.in/eA89ZnD5 Congratulations to these well-deserved winners: NFlyte was awarded $87,500 for an all-in-one practical life skill app for autistic adults. Autistic adults use the mobile app to create customized visual schedules, keep track of shopping lists, create, and share recipes with the NFlyte community, and store documents. The mobile app empowers autistic adults to have more independence while having the security of remote support. Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health was awarded $85,000 for Ask Grandma: A Culturally Responsive Early Developmental Support App. Native American populations experience the highest rate of disability but have the least access to developmental and education support services to address their needs. This project, led by a team of Indigenous leaders, will customize, and adapt an evidence-based home visiting curriculum which support early childhood development called Family Spirit – Language is Medicine, for enhanced use with Indigenous families of young children with disabilities and/or neurodevelopmental differences. Lynn Disability Network was awarded $75,000 for The Lynnebago, a mobile solution intentionally designed to create a welcoming, inclusive space at municipal events. The Lynnebago provides a universally designed space for all to address their toileting needs with safety and dignity, a sensory sanctuary for those who need time and space for self-regulation and respite, and multilingual Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) technology/braille panels/Sign Language infographics to bridge communication gaps. Lynnebago’s design centers the needs of individuals with various disabilities and communication methods, creating a welcoming space for all within a diverse, multilingual city. The winners were chosen by a panel of experts with experience in philanthropy, human services, and business. The panel was: Ralph James, Marylou Sudders, Shirley Leung, Nora Moreno Cargie, and James Day Keith. The panel was supported by David Chang. And Latoyia Edwards served as the event's emcee.
