New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) Board of Directors approved $265 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across the state. The Board's approval authorizes municipal access to low-cost financing and grants to get shovels in the ground for critical water and sewer infrastructure projects. Of the project funding approved today, $30 million in grants from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) will help 30 communities across the state to inventory lead service lines in drinking water systems, a vital first step for starting replacement projects and protecting public health. The Board approved grants and financings to local governments from BIL, the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (CWSRF and DWSRF), and grants already announced under the Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) program. Leveraging BIL funding with the State’s investments will continue to empower local communities to make critical system improvements to safeguard public health, protect the environment, bolster communities’ climate readiness, and promote economic development. National Grid and its workforce development partners held a signing ceremony for the first six recipients of the National Grid Electric Worker Scholarship, a new program designed to assist students as they pursue their education at Hudson Valley Community College during the 2024-2025 academic year and explore careers as electrical workers. 

Firm plans to add 200 jobs in Rotterdam industrial park CTDI serves the telecomm and cable industries. A Pennsylvania-based company that serves the telecommunication and cable industry as well as manufacturers, plans to lease a 200,000-square-foot building at the Rotterdam Corporate Park. The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority was involved in the project. https://lnkd.in/gDgSMXYN

NYSEDC ADVOCACY ALERT Changes to New York's Freshwater Wetlands Act What it means and how you can help The NYSEDC would like to make you aware of public hearings coming up for changes to New York’s Freshwater Wetlands Act on September 10th and 12th. The hearings will be held virtually on WebEx at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 10th, and in person at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 12th at 625 Broadway in Albany. Written comments will be accepted until Sept. 19th. More information will be available on the New York Department of Environmental Conservation website. The proposed regulations, if approved, will significantly impact site development across the state, creating additional challenges and hurdles to build out shovel ready sites. As you know, the Fast NY Program to increase shovel ready sites across the state has been one of our top priorities and most significant policy wins. Regulatory proposals like this directly contradict the state’s goal to be a leader in industry attraction and expediting project time to market. NYSERDA signals flexibility on state's electrification deadlines, but stresses need for progress As concerns persist about New York’s ability to meet its ambitious climate goals, including reaching 70% electricity from renewable sources by 2030, state energy leaders said Monday that progress is the priority, and the state is open to tweaking its mandated deadlines to meet the benchmarks, if necessary. “If 2030 becomes 2032 or 2031, that’s less important than the fact that we have a goal of the magnitude commensurate with the objectives of the state, which is to get after this clean energy deployment,” she said. “That’s what we set out to do, to make maximum progress, to navigate these challenges, and certainly the governor’s leadership is clear in doing so.” Harris’ comments Monday come after Gov. Kathy Hochul pressed pause on congestion pricing in New York City, and one month after she acknowledged that New York’s climate goals are becoming increasingly costly to implement in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.

New federal assistance is available for farmers in New York after the damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl in July. According to U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy's office, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved federal disaster assistance for multiple counties, including Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben. This designation allows farmers to get emergency loans and other recovery resources for damage they suffered between July 10 and 16. “I’m pleased to announce that our farmers and communities will receive the federal support they need to rebuild after the devastating tornadoes and storm damage from Hurricane Beryl in July,” said Langworthy. “This designation is essential for helping our farmers recover from losses and continue their vital work. I continue to advocate for federal relief for those in Steuben County and surrounding areas who were recently hit with devastating flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.” You can learn more and apply on their website, farmers.gov .
