📢 The adoption of the Master Development Agreement is an important step that followed years of community engagement whereby residents of #Fulton and #ElliottChelsea Houses selected Essence Development and Related Companies to be their Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (#PACT) partners and lead the project as co-developers. "The Bridge Plan not only addresses immediate needs through vital repairs and improvements, but is also anchored in the Master Development Agreement, which sets the stage for delivering safe, modern housing and amenities for generations to come. We are deeply committed to collaborating with our residents and partners to realize this vision," said NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt. About us
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America. NYCHA is committed to increasing opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA’s 326 public housing developments around the five boroughs, and another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program. To fulfill its vital mission and even better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies are helping NYCHA to address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of developments, to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.

NYCHA Hosts Mental Health First Aid Training for Residents, Staff 🧠 This past summer, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) partnered with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to host Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for 168 NYCHA residents, staff, and community leaders. These free classes aimed to equip participants with the skills to assist individuals experiencing mental health challenges or crises, fostering greater mental health awareness and resilience within our communities. 🌱 Held at #NYCHA developments and the central office, these 8-hour sessions featured role-playing and simulations to help attendees respond to mental health or substance abuse situations. Wyckoff Gardens Resident Association President Valerie Bell described the training as "very informative," noting that understanding mental health is key to building empathy and resilience. Mill Brook Houses resident Michelle Pierce also shared her experience: "It helped me better understand mental health for both older and younger adults, and how to better handle family situations." NYCHA is committed to promoting mental well-being for our communities. Looking for mental health support? New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is rolling out two new programs to provide up to $185 million in rental assistance to residents with arrears: the COVID-19 Rental Assistance (CRA) Program and the HOME American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Program. 🚨 This funding includes $35 million allocated by New York State and $150 million in federal funding from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These programs aim to help NYCHA residents impacted by the pandemic to catch up on rent and maintain housing stability. NYCHA is reaching out to 61,500 households with arrears totaling over $370 million to encourage eligible residents to apply. Households are asked to log into the Self-Service Portal and complete a consent form to allow NYCHA to seek payments on their behalf. The funding is limited, so residents are urged to apply now. “We have fought tirelessly for our NYCHA residents to get their fair share of rental assistance following the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am delighted that these two new programs will supplement the aid that came through ERAP,” said NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt.
