About us
Our gaming regulatory framework has developed a reputation around the globe as the leader through its 80 year history and long standing contributions of legislative and government leaders, gaming commissioners, board members and dedicated employees. This reputation has been greatly enhanced by the contributions of gaming lawyers, accountants, advisers and members of the academic community who have challenged our system with continued new ideas. Our reputation has been built on a philosophy that gaming, when properly regulated, can thrive and be an important contribution to the economic welfare of our state. Our agency’s reputation has been built around a philosophy of consistent legal, ethical and fair-minded practices and actions. Our reputation has also been established through highly rigorous standards for licensing, suitability and operation. Maintaining a balance between rigorous standards for the industry and the kind of flexibility that permits innovation and prudent expansion is an overarching goal that guides not only our day to day decision making, but also our consideration of changes to regulations and statutes. The Board regulates the State of Nevada’s multi-billion dollar gaming industry. The Board conducts pre-licensing investigations of applicants, performs complex audits of gaming and entertainment activities in large and small operations, analyzes technology used in gaming operations, investigates and takes law enforcement actions against both patrons and employees who attempt cheating, theft or fraud related activities, conducts covert investigations of licensees, collects and manages tax revenues for the benefit of the state treasury and continuously ensures all state gaming law and regulations are followed.

The NGCB Records and Research team met with representatives from the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records to tour State Archives and discuss the digitization of the Board’s historic records with their Imaging and Preservation Services team. Their services are included under the state’s cost allocation program, which is saving the Board $82,549.66 for this project. This collaboration will digitize over 500 rolls of film, and take over five years to complete. Digitizing the film will create ease of access and long-term preservation of some of the Board’s most important documents. During the tour of the Archives, the team got to see the first 36-star flag that flew over Nevada after we became a state.
