Today at the 85th Annual Conference & Design Expo in Houston TX, our designer Andisheh Ghofranitabari is leading a tour through our Memorial Park project. Highlighting the projects focus on restoration and ecological resiliency, the tour will take attendees through the Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Prairie, over the west mound, by the Rally and Overlook Pavilions, and end at the Cullen Timing Track and park Café. The conference, themed “the BRIDGE,” features keynote speakers, continuing education sessions, tours, the largest architectural products showcase in the Southwest, and events for architects at all stages of their career. The team is excited to present this tour alongside SCHAUM Architects who designed the Running Complex Cafe and Walter P Moore who created the land bridge tunnels. The NBW Design team celebrated the grand opening of our project, The Academic Quad at Rice University, earlier this month in Houston, Texas. The project reimagines the 4 acres to be a sought-after place of study, engagement, and recreation - rather than just a means of passage. To better align with the campus community’s modern-day needs and the university’s evolution, the design recontextualizes the Founder Statue from its central plinth and adds in curved walkways from student-created desire paths, shade-providing pavilions and tables, dynamic spaces for events and study, and high-speed Wi-Fi. Once fully grown in, the trees will provide ample amounts of shade and become a part of the university’s Lynn R. Lowrey Arboretum, a collection of woody plants and named garden spaces dispersed throughout the campus. Thank you to everyone who attended the first Public Information Session for the next Memorial Park Master Plan project, Memorial Groves. Watch the presentation: https://bit.ly/3Tx3bRi The next public meeting will be held in early 2025. This project will recognize all who served at Camp Logan during and immediately after World War I. Memorial Groves will connect visitors to the Park's intertwined stories of history, culture, ecology, and community, and will offer opportunities for exploration, recreation, and special events that mark significant days of remembrance and celebration.🌳 👉 If you have questions or comments about the project, please email [email protected]. Excited to share that our project, the reimaging of the Academic Quad at Rice University, had its ribbon cutting ceremonies yesterday! Watch the guided video introduction to the design led by Senior Principal Thomas Woltz and filmed by Rice University.
As Thomas Woltz of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects guides us through the quad, it becomes clear that while the redesign is visually striking, its significance goes far beyond mere aesthetics. “I don’t see the landscape as an act of decoration,” he noted. “I see it as a physical manifestation of values.” Video by Gustavo Raskosky of Rice Public Affairs #RiceUniversity #universities #highereducation #highered #landscape #landscapearchitecture #landscapearchitects

We are excited to announce that NBW has been selected to lead a team of design partners in creating a Comprehensive Land Plan for the 200+ acre Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Often referred to as “Atlanta’s Beating Green Heart”, the Midtown park has long been intertwined with the city’s own vibrant culture and history. While the first land plan was created in 1912 by the Olmsted Brothers, it largely went unfulfilled. Now, as the Piedmont Park Conservancy celebrates its 35th Anniversary, they are looking to the future of this beloved park. With design goals around sustainability, accessibility, and community, NBW is honored to assist the Conservancy in planning for future generations of park users and stewards. If you’re local to Atlanta, follow the link below to find how you provide input, feedback, and ideas for this important project. https://lnkd.in/gSWUQRHU Images of the Park and Engagement Courtesy of Piedmont Park Conservancy PEREZ PLANNING + DESIGN, LLC Ingrid Kanics The Cultural Landscape Foundation Etm Associates LLC Atlas #NBWLA #NelsonByrdWoltzLandscapeArchitects #NelsonByrdWoltz #LandscapeArchitecture #NewProject #PiedmontPark #AtlantaGeorgia #ATL #ParkDesign #urbanpark #piedmontparkatl

So many exciting tours to choose from for this year’s Texas Society of Architects Annual Conference and Expo, including Memorial Park Land Bridge by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects! This project is one of the largest natural bridges of its kind and successfully reconnects the north and south halves of Memorial Park, allowing both pedestrians and wildlife to safely navigate across the busy street. I am in awe every time I get a chance to drive through these impressive structures. You will also get to tour the new SCHAUM Architects designed Vibrant Cafe as part of this tour! Travel, talks, tours, and of course, Tim Horton's! Our Team crossed all of our Ts earlier this summer by attending the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects 2024 Congress in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We were honored to share some of our work on the prairies with Congress attendees, along with our friend and colleague Matt Sloan from the City of Edmonton. A big thank-you to our new friends at PUBLIC CITY who took the time to show us around the city and walk us through their truly inspiring, exciting, and innovative projects within Winnipeg. We hope to return the favor someday soon! Our Canadian team members look forward to continuing to showcase more of the True North to the rest of NBW. Completed in 2019, the House of Flowers landscape bridges the distance between its Russian River Valley location and the Flowers Winery vineyards along the bluffs of the Sonoma Coast — where their story begins, and their featured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grow. Flowers Winery devotes its winemaking to sustainable production methods, honoring the agrarian nature of Sonoma vineyards and their dependence on the surrounding distinctive ecologies. Reflecting that devotion through the tasting room’s landscape and cultivated garden, NBW’s highly contextual design manifests and amplifies the deeply rooted sense of place and story essential to Flowers’ winemaking practice. A diverse native plant palette immerses visitors and supports pollinator species and the utilization of low-impact maintenance strategies.
