Traffic Signals have come a long way! Up until the 1900s in the United States, before Traffic Signals were invented, traffic signs were controlled by police officers during the daytime. In the evenings, gas was used to illuminate the crossing areas. Fast forward to 2024 now we have timed signals, preemption, ADA compliance and pedestrian safety, which is of the utmost importance. N+P’s Transportation Department has played a significant role on many State, County, Town, and Village roadways in the design, redesign and construction of existing traffic signals, new traffic signals and other associated roadway improvements.

Who’s up for a lap around the track? After successfully completing the popular dog park project, Nelson + Pope recently finished two recreation projects at the Town of North Hempstead’s Michael J. Tully Park. N+P provided design and construction phase services for the reconstruction of the existing tennis courts into 14 pickleball courts and 5 tennis courts. Additionally, N+P provided construction phase services including construction engineering and inspection for the replacement of the existing running track, multi-purpose synthetic playing field, and adjoining stadium areas. Look at the beautiful transformation! Both projects were completed on schedule and under budget and are available to Town residents.

Nelson + Pope announces the promotion of Keith J. Gurnick, RA, LEED AP to Senior Associate. Keith, with 30+ years of industry experience, is recognized for his extraordinary support and seasoned expertise. He now heads the architectural department and continues to lead his team. In addition, he will work to expand the firm’s services and markets. Congratulations to Keith on being promoted to Senior Associate!
