After a disaster there are often scams and rumors that target survivors. Please use official local, state and federal sources for credible information. Survivors should never trust someone claiming to be a disaster assistance employee asking for money. Local and federal disaster assistance workers do not solicit or accept money.

It’s Digital Inclusion Week, a week to shed light on the importance of making digital skills, tools and access available to all individuals. Last Friday, we joined Kramden Institute and North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH) to gather devices from individuals and organizations in the triangle area during the third annual Device Drive. We successfully collected nearly 800 devices that Kramden will refurbish and distribute to individuals in need so they can connect with family, find jobs, access educational resources and much more. For more information on our department’s efforts to close North Carolina’s digital divide, see NCDigitalEquity on X. #DIW2024 #DigitalDivide #NC

North Carolina Technology Association (NC TECH) (Brooks Raiford) and Kramden Institute's 3rd Annual Device Drive was a huge success with 110 drop-offs and 7 full pallets of donations. Special guests attended including N.C. Department of Information Technology Secretary Jim Weaver, who provided a updated briefing on the work being done in #WNC to restore communications networks, NC Senator Jay Chaudhuri, NC Rep Zack Hawkins, and S.G. Pat Miller E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide. Donations are needed more than ever as we look to the coming weeks of recovery and rebuilding in WNC. Many families lost everything and Kramden and E2D need to start now to ensure those families and students have computers to begin rebuilding their lives. #Helene Event video: https://lnkd.in/exjZ4393

Thanks to Center for Digital Equity and Sara Nichols at Land of Sky Regional Council, digital devices will be delivered to help western North Carolinians access critical services and FEMA reimbursements. This Digital Inclusion Week and always, please donate your used devices to E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide in Charlotte and Kramden Institute in Durham to help prepare laptops, desktops, tablets and phones for those in need.
Jumping our internal volunteer process here a bit as Im seeking up to 5 people to volunteer for the Center for Digital Equity TOMORROW, Monday 10/7 between 12 and 5 pm. We are preparing up to 200 iPads for distribution to Helene Relief efforts. They need to be set up, and have some resources bookmarked. This will take place at our office at Queens. DM, text, call or message me here if you can make it. For now, thats the only time we need additional support. Thank you!

Wondering what phishing is and how you can avoid it? In this short video, State Chief Risk Officer Torry Crass explains how to spot a phishing attempt and the risks of clicking on suspicious links. #SecureOurWorld #CyberSecureNC #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth

Cybercriminals often pose as reputable people and organizations while using email, texts or social media to gain unauthorized access to accounts and personal information. This type of cybercrime, also known as phishing, often increases after natural disasters, holidays and other notable events. Don't click links or open attachments in suspicious messages. Always double check web and email addresses to make sure they are legitimate. If you think the message could be real, look up another way to contact the organization or person directly to verify.
