Why do children get cancer? Childhood cancer is not caused by lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking, or prolonged sun exposure. While the cause is widely unknown, many cancers can be attributed to genetics. Gene mutations can lead to uncontrollable cell growth, which increases the risk of developing cancer. Childhood cancer can also be linked to exposure to environmental factors, such as radiation.

Nessie's mom, Vanessa, shares the following about her beautiful daughter: “Nessie was diagnosed on the 16th of April 2024, and it turned our whole world upside down. Dad had to leave his job to stay home with Nessie, and we have two older girls, Jazmine and Juliet, who were devastated by what is happening with their little sister. It was a lot and all we could do was take it day by day and be strong for Janessa. It turns out that Janessa has been the strongest one of us all. She has such a good attitude about the whole thing and takes her medicine like a champ along with going to the clinic twice a week. Our little warrior, who is only 6, is currently going through chemotherapy, and treatment is working great. We can’t thank NCCS enough for all the help they have provided us through this hard time. They provided help for us when we needed it most. Thank you so much for all you do and all the families you help!” #ChildhoodCancer

Happy #NationalDogDay! 🐕🐾 Studies show that man's best friend can help with stress and anxiety by reducing cortisol levels while elevating your feel-good hormones. Spending time with a pup can also improve your physical health by lowering your blood pressure. Because of these wonderful benefits, therapy dogs are becoming more common in pediatric oncology units: https://ow.ly/2MiX50T6zQm.
