We are looking for a Construction Workshop Assistant & CNC Operator to join the National Theatre Production and Technical Team. The purpose of this role is to carry out a wide range of tasks to aid and support the Carpentry and Metal workshops in producing scenery of the highest standard possible. Also, to operate the CNC machine, running programmes to deliver components to the Carpentry workshop. And to maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment; to assist in the management of stock; and to assist in the maintenance of workshop tools and machinery. The Music Logistics Manager is an essential role fuelling the creation and use of music in its many diverse forms across all areas of the NT’s programming. We are looking for an Associate Dramaturg to join the National Theatre New Work Team. The Associate Dramaturg supports the New Work department in identifying, attracting and engaging with emerging theatre artists and their work. The Associate Dramaturg will be involved in play development and literary management, and in working with writers and directors from idea towards production, script to stage. The Associate Dramaturg will read scripts and be called on to assess a wide range of material, to offer reports and feedback, to engage in close artistic conversations with early to mid-career artists, and to support the process of developing proposals and scripts towards commission and production. The role requires close work with writers and directors particularly at earlier stages of their careers, and engagement with other strands of work at the NT including Learning. We are looking for a Dramaturg to join the National Theatre New Work Team on 9 Month Fixed Term Contract. The Dramaturg is a key member of the dramaturgical team, working closely with the Director of New Work and the artistic leadership in proposing and preparing plays for production. They will be asked to suggest plays for commission and production, to develop titles for adaptation, revival and versioning, and to identify writers, artists and companies for development at the NT. From there, the Dramaturg oversees a slate of projects towards production, supporting the artists and process. As such, the role includes workshop and show dramaturgy, as well as talent and project-based research and development toward the stages of the National Theatre. As the dramaturg will regularly be asked to engage with material for adaptation and development, the role requires an extensive knowledge of canonical classics and understanding of the processes of adaptation; at the same time, the role requires extensive reading of new plays and a familiarity with the new writing landscape both in the UK and beyond, particularly drawing on an up-to-date working knowledge of the UK and international theatre ecology. Finally, the position requires a strategic overview of the NT’s repertoire to guide artistic choices, as well as a proven track record in working with senior artists and bringing ambitious and excellent ideas to life. The Head of Play Development is a senior role within the New Work Department (NWD), supporting the Director of New Work and the artistic leadership in delivering new work for the slate and stages of the National Theatre. The role involves a dual function of project and artist development alongside a deputising function for the NWD, working closely with the Head of Studio in delivering the strategy of the NWD. The role requires experience in talent development and is a leading dramaturgical position, in working with writers, directors and theatre-makers as part of helping to build a diverse slate of projects at scale. We are looking for a Scenic Artist (Grade 1) to join the National Theatre Workshops Team. The purpose of this role is to execute the vision of the creative team using the appropriate techniques and materials on a range of scenic items. We are currently seeking a Construction Workshop Manager to work within the National Theatre’s Construction departments to ensure smooth, efficient and safe running of the Carpentry and Metal workshops on a day-to-day basis. They will also manage the entry level roles in the two workshops, providing support and guidance. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with solid understanding of running a workshop(s). They will focus on the health and safety requirements that comes with that and will work alongside the Scenic Heads of Department to deliver scenery on time and on budget.
