One year ago today, President Biden officially designated the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument, honoring the Till family and their critical place in American history. NPCA has been a proud partner in the community-led effort to create the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument to preserve the family’s legacy, while sharing the story that reopened the nation’s eyes to the brutal realities of racism. Last year NPCA's Alan Spears spoke with NPR about the designation the role the monument plays in preserving Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley's legacies: "As long as their names are spoken, they will never be forgotten. We do that by saying Emmett's name and by saying Mamie's and by remembering. That gets us there. It doesn't get us all the way, but it gets us there, or at least a little bit closer." #ParkForTill #NationalParks #ProtectOurParks #ParkAdvocacy #CivilRightsMovement https://lnkd.in/dGPu2QNS

Last night, the House passed their 2025 spending bill which would slash $210 million (more than 6%) from the National Park Service’s budget – plus additional cuts for parks' maintenance & repairs as well as historic preservation. Parks deserve better. #NationalParks #ProtectOurParks #ParkAdvocate

There's absolutely no reason an active uranium mine should exist within the boundaries of a national monument. Yet, the Pinyon Plain mine, located within the boundaries of Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument, started operations in January 2024 despite widespread opposition from Tribal Nations and local communities. NPCA is calling for the immediate closure of the Pinyon Plain Uranium mine to stand with Tribal partners and protect the waters of the Grand Canyon. Baaj Nwaavjo Itah Kukveni—Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument is one of our newest national monument sites, home to important natural resources and scarce water sources, as well as cultural and historical sites that hold deep significance for many Tribal Nations in the region. Join us in urging President Biden and Arizona Governor Hobbs to close the Pinyon Plain Mine and protect this sacred place. #Arizona #ProtectOurParks #GrandCanyon #UraniumMining

Experts acknowledged that storms like Hurricane Beryl don’t typically form until around August, yet this storm developed and made landfall in July – a prediction made by Yale Climate Connections in May. As we get ready for a summer of above-normal hurricane activity, our blog looks at what that means for national parks. What has the National Park Service learned from past hurricanes, and how are they preparing coastal parks for future climate change impacts? Our story looks at nine of its sustainable practices, technology-based solutions and positive strategies, from climate-resilient construction in the Everglades to moveable infrastructure at Assateague. #ClimateChange #ProtectOurParks #ClimateResiliency #CoastalResiliency #ParkAdvocacy
