About us

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the globe. Each year, NED makes more than 2,000 grants to support the projects of non-governmental groups abroad who are working for democratic goals in more than 100 countries. NED has remained on the leading edge of democratic struggles everywhere, while evolving into a multifaceted institution that is a hub of activity, resources and intellectual exchange for activists, practitioners and scholars of democracy the world over. Composer, Bandola & Mandolin virtuoso Saúl Vera, born in Caracas, Venezuela, leads the acclaimed "Saul Vera Ensemble" since 1986, blending academic and traditional music approaches. Projecting Venezuelan Bandola internationally, sharing stages with icons like Paco de Lucía, has earned him awards like the "Proyecto Eco" and diplomas from Grammy-winning projects such as Franco de Vita's "En Primera Fila" and Marc Anthony's "For Babies". Since 1989, his diverse discography fuses Venezuelan music with global sounds, highlighted by the acclaimed 'TOCANDO TIERRA' (1999). In 2000, he premiered his groundbreaking 'Concert for Bandola Llanera & Orchestra.'
