It costs an average of $35,578 per year to support a person who is chronically homeless, including costs for emergency shelters, healthcare, and law enforcement. In contrast, preventing homelessness permanently through early intervention costs, on average, $2,000. In 2023, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul mobilized $60 million in emergency financial assistance to prevent evictions and keep people housed. Every dollar invested in prevention saves up to five dollars in costs associated with homelessness. And keeping individuals and families housed promotes healthier, more stable communities. "No work of charity is foreign to the Society."
About us
A worldwide network of 800,000 lay Catholics, we are inspired by Gospel values to grow in holiness and build a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need. We are men and women of every age, every race, every income level, who share our blessings of time, talent, and treasure with those who need help and hope. From our thrift stores and food pantries, to disaster recovery and prison reentry, to advocacy and systemic change, we serve our communities however they need it most. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. Like the Good Samaritan, we’re ready to help anyone regardless of religion, age, or background. The National Council serves nearly 90,000 faith-filled Vincentian volunteers across the country, providing resources, spiritual formation, and best practices for more than 4,000 local Conferences and 500 Councils across the country.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul USA reposted this
Today, St. Vincent de Paul kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a lively celebration luncheon, honoring the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino staff and community in our mission to feed, clothe, house and heal. During the special luncheon, our team came together to enjoy Hispanic and Latino dishes, lively mariachi music, and experience the talents of local Hispanic and Latino vendors showcasing their beautiful jewelry, tasty food, and creativity. It was a special day filled with happiness and vibrant colors. Thank you to the planning team for creating this opportunity to showcase the culture, history and achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities, allowing our entire staff to savor and share in the joy with each other.

God Bless the amazing work of homelessness prevention for youth and young adults at St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County, Inc.
St. Vincent de Paul's Youth House opened in 2018 as a much-needed transitional housing program for local unsheltered teens. Residents there worked to complete high school while living in a safe, stable, case-managed environment and building a solid rental history through SVdP during the course of their stay. The Youth House continued to operate as transitional housing for youth up until last year. At that time, we shifted its focus to providing stable and affordable housing for young adults and emancipated youth exiting the foster-care system. Now, the goal at the Youth House is to work with those individuals exiting foster care to provide them with an affordable housing option, especially those who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. The facility offers 12 private studio apartments for those aged 16-24 who are referred from partner agencies like Looking Glass Community Services and the Oregon Department of Human Services.
