This #LaborDay may be a long weekend - but like other essential workers, homeless service providers spend holidays serving people experiencing homelessness. And like many other essential workers, they face low pay, long hours, high turnover, and burnout. Here's what the homeless services workforce needs to end homelessness: https://buff.ly/4dZga61

About us
The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in the United States. We use research and data to find solutions to homelessness; we work with federal and local partners to create a solid base of policy and resources that support those solutions; and then we help communities implement them. Our strength is that we are an outcome-driven organization. Starting with our name and continuing with how we choose the work we do, allocate staff time, and use our resources, we focus on one thing: ending homelessness. The Homelessness Research Institute at the National Alliance to End Homelessness works to end homelessness by building and disseminating knowledge that drives policy change.

Even as more people are being housed because of significant federal investments, more and more are experiencing homelessness due to the nationwide lack of affordable housing. The nation’s homeless response system has increased its number of permanent housing beds (Rapid Re-Housing, Permanent Supportive Housing, or other permanent housing) by 251% since 2007. And recent surges in homelessness have been met with a 64% increase in this housing since 2015. But these large increases simply haven’t kept up with the need. Shelter can help a person’s immediate well-being and get them off the streets temporarily, but it is ultimately permanent housing that ultimately ends their experience of homelessness. Without sustained increases in funding, though many communities cannot fully provide enough shelter *or* housing - which hampers their efforts to end homelessness in the long term. The State of Homelessness: 2024 Edition illustrates these gaps: https://buff.ly/3YYthQT
