We are thrilled to welcome Mike Anderson to the board of the National AHEC Organization as the #AHECScholars Representative! 🌟 Mike is a third-year medical student at the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, where he has exhibited a passion for expanding access to healthcare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mike founded the student organization Equal Access Alabama. Through collaboration with the Alabama AHEC Network, this organization launched a vaccination campaign that administered over 1,200 COVID-19 vaccines. An active supporter of the AHEC program, Mike attended the 2023 National AHEC Organization Biennial Conference, advocated for expanded funding, and engaged with congressional members during the 2024 Capitol Hill visits. AHEC West Associate Director Melissa Clark was invited to the White House recently to discuss the critical role of harm reduction and life-saving medications for those affected by substance use disorder. AHEC West joined over 250 organizations nationwide in the White House Challenge to Save Lives, an initiative committed to enhancing training and access to essential opioid overdose reversal medications, such as naloxone. With 24 years of dedicated service at Missouri AHEC, Stephanie brings a wealth of experience to the group. Since beginning as the clinical coordinator for Northwest Missouri AHEC, she has made significant strides in advancing health career pipeline programs.  As the executive director of West Central Missouri AHEC in Lexington, MO. since 2005, she has tirelessly supported health professions students, coordinated clinical rotations in rural and underserved urban communities, and facilitated the AHEC Scholars program.
