On Tuesday evening, we had the distinct honor and privilege of presenting U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto with the 2024 Edward R. Roybal Award for Outstanding Public Service in Washington, D.C. That evening we were joined by U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján and President and CEO of the Vegas Chamber of Commerce Mary Beth Sewald who provided tribute remarks to Cortez Masto, who they consider as a friend and colleague. Other notable guests of our annual NALEO Edward R. Roybal Legacy celebration included past Roybal Award recipients U.S. Senator Alex Padilla and U.S. Representatives Sylvia Garcia, and U.S. Representative Greg Lopez, Ambassador Ana Luisa Fajer, FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez, SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizarraga, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Sara Bronin, Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino’s Jorge Zamanillo, White House Initiative Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics Melody Gonzales. The award pays tribute to the organization’s founder and President Emeritus, the late Congressman Edward R. Roybal.
