Be brave and advocate for someone who can do the best job but is overlooked because of status quo. This is the way the world works. It's hard to put your own reputation on the line when it's not the popular thing to do. But we need leaders to be brave and to make the best business decisions, to do what's right, and to recognize that the more chairs at the table, the better it is for the people and profits. So happy to see old friends and meet new ones at The Yale Club of New York City, for a gathering organized by APIW, Inc. Asian American Insurance Network (AAIN) NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association and MRIA - Multicultural (Re)Insurance Association Kudos to Everest Munich Re AXIS (AXIS Capital) Intact Zurich Insurance and all the other sponsors! #WoodruffSawyer #LifeAtWS #NYC #Insurance #Broker #Culture

Late post but better late than never! Last month I had the pleasure of attending my first NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association conference in New Orleans. It certainly did not disappoint between the meaningful connections made and informative sessions throughout. It’s so important to have a community within our industry. Thank you to McGill and Partners for allowing me to represent the company. Looking forward to attending next year in Philly!

The insurance program at my alma mater is growing and I am so proud. A big thank you to Alan Kaufman for endowing a professorship in the insurance and risk management minor 🙌🏼 It was great to see my former intern, Miguel Lopez Solis, who is the founder and current President of the Gamma Iota Sigma chapter at Michigan State University. They are already up to over thirty members in less than a year! Tonights Insurance Night featured a panel with two of my insurance pals and fellow NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association members Gretchen Cross and Gerald Chiddick. Always a pleasure watching them drop nuggets of wisdom to tomorrows insurance professionals. A beautiful day to be a Spartan!

I had an amazing time visiting Lloyd's London HQ on behalf of NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association for the inaugural Flint Lecture, named for David Flint, Lloyd’s first Black British Broker. It was an honor to meet and discuss the state of our industry! David O. was the lector. He noted the more liberal and progressive a sector believes itself to be, the more reluctant they are to engage in hard truths around DEI and historical inequities. He encouraged us to think about the true purpose of DEI, our truth telling and storytelling. The Underwriter’s Floor is even more breathtaking than pictures suggested and seeing the artifacts from the Underwriting Souls exhibit (www.underwritingsouls.org) was an experience I won’t soon forget. Thank you to Mark Lomas, Chartered FCIPD for the invitation and Tyreish Softleigh-Palmer for being an excellent host to Rebekah Ratliff and I. It was also wonderful to tour London for the weekend with my husband, Craig Aarons-Martin as the start of our first wedding anniversary. We made it back yesterday with thousands of steps in our shoes and way too many pounds of food in our bellies and none left in our wallets! #NAAIAnow #NewNAAIA
