Museum of the Moving Image is the country's only museum dedicated to the art, history, technique, and technology of the moving image in all its forms. The Museum is a one-of-a-kind destination for audiences of all ages and interests, from connoisseurs of classic cinema to children and families to avid gamers. Embracing a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth-century optical toys to the latest in digital art, the Museum explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images. 🎥✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend for New York on Location! It was incredible to witness industry professionals demonstrate how their skills contribute to the magic of movies. From transforming characters through makeup and hair, controlling the weather on set with rain, wind, and snow machines, filming high-speed car chases with camera cars, to moving entire studios on wheels with those iconic trucks and trailers across the city – the behind-the-scenes talent was truly on display! A special thank you to Senator Michael Gianaris, Council Member Tiffany Cabán, and Commissioner Pat Kaufman Pat Kaufman for their continued support. Thanks to all who joined us for the opening of Recording the Ride, our latest exhibit exploring the rich history of skateboarding videos! Recording the Ride showcases iconic artifacts from the formative years of skate culture, with highlights from brands like H-Street, Plan B, World Industries, Girl, Zoo York, 411, Birdhouse, and more. These releases helped shape the structure and style of modern skate videos, with a lasting impact on pop culture, fashion, and even filmmaking today. Today, we continue to present dynamic exhibitions known for their integration of media and materials, hands-on education programs, and a wide range of screenings and events—many with filmmakers in person—and serve as a resource for our local Queens community and New York at large.
