The restoration of #SatchelPaige's historic home in #KansasCity's Historic Santa Fe District is gaining momentum. Led by Pitch Perfect KC, in partnership with the Paige family and community leaders, this $4.5 million effort is bringing new life to a landmark. As design lead, our team is dedicated to honoring the legacy of one of baseball's most iconic figures. With a $750,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation, the effort to restore this home—a landmark of athletic and cultural significance—is now poised to make a lasting impact. This initiative isn't just about bricks and mortar; it's about safeguarding the stories of the Negro Leagues, civil rights, and the vibrant history of Kansas City for future generations. Our commitment is clear: to create a space where history is not just remembered but experienced. In a city where space is at a premium, transforming existing structures is key to unlocking new opportunities. 🏢➡️🏘️ The #SpartanVillageonthePaseo project in the City of San José exemplifies this vision, converting a 13-story hotel into student housing for nearly 700 San Jose State University students—all within an impressive nine months. As the design lead behind this ambitious project, we are proud to collaborate with San Jose State University, Throckmorton Partners, Build Group, Inc, and IMEG to create a dynamic, urban living space revitalizing downtown San Jose. The project stands as a model for sustainable, adaptive reuse, providing a glimpse into the future of urban student housing. We look forward to seeing the lasting impact this development will have on the students and the local community as they move in this week. The San Francisco Central Freeway, like many other freeways built in the 1950s, displaced existing residents and divided neighborhoods, causing significant cultural, economic, and health impacts on community members for generations. Since 2019, Multistudio has been collaborating with BADINER URBAN PLANNING INC, BASE Landscape Architecture, and Arup to spark conversations in various forums around the many potential opportunities for the future of the Central Freeway. Most recently, we hosted interactive events to understand attendees’ interest in reconnecting the communities around the Central Freeway to foster more equitable and resilient neighborhoods. The US Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Pilot Grant Program application is open and due September 30. The grant is for community-based planning and feasibility studies. Please read our report on our initial gathered feedback and consider signing the petition letter to urge Caltrans, the State of California, and the City of San Francisco to support and collaborate with local, diverse community non-profit organizations to apply for this grant and other funding that would make robust community engagement the next step in imagining the future of the Central Freeway. The Lemann Building, a 150-year-old hallmark of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, has been given new life. Architect James Freret designed the department store in the late 1870s, which now houses the West Ascension Early Learning Center. Lexi Tengco from our #NewOrleans studio led the transformation of the first floor into a preschool that serves children from infancy through age three. The team preserved key historic features such as the original curved windows and doorways, integrating them with modern elements to create a safe, enriching environment. Throughout the facility, the design concepts balanced educational needs with practical and safety requirements, creating a welcoming and functional space for children and staff. 🔗 Learn more about how adaptive reuse can strengthen neighborhoods and foster community growth in the link below. #TogetherMultistudio #DesignMatters #Multistudio #AdaptiveReuse #CommunityDesign #HistoricPreservation #EarlyLearning #Architecture #Multistudio

Multistudio's Director of Research, Michael C. Ralph, along with Raechel French, Erika Eitland, MPH, ScD, and Renae Mantooth, presented "Standardizing K-12 Post Occupancy Evaluations through a Multi-Firm Research Collaboration" during this year's Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) conference. Michael, Raechel, Erika, and Renae founded the Coalition for the Advanced Understanding of School Environments (CAUSE). The work presented at EDRA resulted from CAUSE's research and encourages our peers and the academic community to engage the #DesignResearch community in standardizing K-12 occupancy evaluation tools. An open-science approach for an open-source tool is the way forward. 🔗 You can learn more about the work coming out of CAUSE at the link below: https://lnkd.in/gtapDG5D #TogetherMultistudio #EducationDesign
Bubbling with excitement post Environmental Design Research Association conference. We (Raechel French, Michael C. Ralph, Erika Eitland, MPH, ScD and I) had the opportunity to share out what the Coalition for the Advanced Understanding of School Environments (CAUSE) has been working toward over the past year. It was energizing, refreshing, and reassuring to engage with our #designresearch community to discuss the real need (and barriers) of industry wide adoption of a standardized K12 occupancy evaluation tool. It is clear that we can only achieve this with an open-science posture for an open-source tool. We have already made so much progress thanks to CADRE convening this coalition and conversations that began at EDRA two years ago thanks to Upali Nanda’s leadership and the incredible support from Susan Chung and Aletta Van Der Walt. We are so much stronger when we come together - thankful for AustinISD, HKS, Inc., Multistudio, and Perkins&Will that believe in this mission and enable us to take this on. Emily Chmielewski, EDAC, Kimari Phillips, CHES®, EDAC, Lennie Scott-Webber, PhD, B Sanborn, Leonardo González Sangri, Deborah Wingler, PhD, MSD-HHE, EDAC, LSSYB, Ana Pinto-Alexander, EDAC, FIIDA, RID your experience, expertise, and skills are absolutely vital - truly in awe of the brain power of our collective. We are actively seeking sponsors that want to join in on our pursuit of elevating the K12 School Design industry to improve the lives of our teachers and students. Please reach out if you want to join the CAUSE! https://lnkd.in/eqtiRWcv
