A team dedicated to connect Asian Pacific Islander college student activists with local community organizations

About us

Inspired by the UC Berkeley Public Service Center and Seeding Change’s National Fellowship Program for Asian American Organizing and Civic Engagement, REACH! (the Asian/Pacific Islander Recruitment/Retention Center at University of California, Berkeley) launched MOVE: API Community Organizing Fellowship in Spring 2017. We were a small team dedicated to bridging the gap between the university and the larger community. Currently, in our third year, MOVE: API Community Organizing Fellowship has grown to work with 18 student fellows and 8 different host organizations in the Bay Area. MOVE aims to connect the on campus and off campus API community to develop the next generation of API community organizers. Through the year long fellowship, MOVE facilitates the political and educational growth of student fellows through social justice based experiential learning, fellow seminars, and an end of the year community project. Our Goals – To collaborate with API organizations in the Bay Area in creating a campus to community pipeline to develop the next generation of API organizers and build towards a social justice movement through project-based work, relationship building, political education, and our collective knowledge of our history. -To foster relationships between fellows, REACH!, host organizations, and the community to build current and future organizing efforts and projects. -To root the political growth and education of API student organizers in historical API organizing and social justice work.
