Congratulations to Daisy Award Winner, Jaqueline G., RN, 5 North! The Daisy Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Our Daisy Award winners go above and beyond for our patients and colleagues. Here is what a patient said about Jaqueline: "I believe that nurses are the face of the hospital, that gives the first impression of quality service and compassion. As soon as I walked into the unit with my father, the patient, this nurse’s warm smile exerted warmth. She introduced herself to us and immediately arranged the room to make sure that my father and I would be comfortable. Upon seeing that the room was going to be very tight, this nurse went out of her way to make space to include me, especially because I was planning to stay overnight. She even wiped down the recliner chair that I was supposed to use. My dad has bowel and urinary incontinence, so he had to call for help numerous times during the night. She came promptly and I felt like she did it with a good attitude and without any complaints. That put patients and family at ease. When I had a question, she took the time to explain things very well. She also explained and was attentive to our every need. Even after her shift was done, I noticed that she was helping other team members. Despite her tiredness after a long shift, she still maintained a smile and carried out acts of kindness. The nurses and staff make or break a patient’s experience. They can easily instill discomfort or fear in them. By this nurse’s small gestures from the beginning of to the end, she showed professionalism and compassion. My family is grateful for allowing a “comfortable stay” in the hospital. Thank you very much, Jacqueline!"

Congratulations to Daisy Award Winner, Courtney C., RN, 5 Center! The Daisy Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Our Daisy Award winners go above and beyond for our patients and colleagues. Here is what a patient said about Courtney: "We have had a very lengthy hospital stay and have seen many nurses during our stay. This nurse is by far one of the best nurses we have had. She is high energy, positive, proactive for her patients and their needs as well as the needs of the family member. She comes in each day with an amazing positive energy that brightens up the room. She is so friendly and caring and it is evident that it is sincere. Whenever we have had issues or need questions answered, she is always right on top of them whether it is looking something up or messaging a provider. This nurse has excellent time management skills, too. She always rounds and checks on us she makes the time to check on her patients to make sure they are safe and their needs are met. We look forward to the days that she is our nurse on those days we know that we have nothing to worry about and that we are going to receive the very best care. This nurse is an excellent advocate for her patient. She is not afraid to speak up and share her concerns. She made sure to make a connection with my mom, who has a patient, and myself the family member at bedside. By doing this, she fostered a relationship of trust and honesty in a time where a patient who is ill and is in a very vulnerable situation. We appreciate you so much! She is kind, quick to attend to our needs and compassionate in all she does. She is extraordinary nurse. Thank you, Courtney!"

Congratulations to Daisy Award Winner, Katelyn G. RN, 5 South The Daisy Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Our Daisy Award winners go above and beyond for our patients and colleagues. Here is what a patient said about Katelyn: "Extraordinary, hands down! My nurse has proven herself to be a hero. From day one she immediately addressed me with the warmest compassion that I ever felt in my life. Not only was she my voice when I desperately needed it, her action backed up her caring words as if she was taking care of her own family member. There were times when I felt like giving up but she stepped out of the box and displayed the epitome of a full rounded nurse. She is outstanding in her passion to make a difference in the lives of her patience. This woman deserves recognition to the fullest extent because taking care of people is naturally in her nature. MountainView should be completely proud to have hired such an outstanding citizen. I am more than lucky and blessed to be able to say that this nurse was my nurse. She was an amazing counterpart to my care team. She reminded me of what patient care is all about due to her constant concern. I know without a shadow of a doubt I must now fulfil my dream of becoming a nurse. Thank you so much. I will continue to get stronger and keep the motivation you instilled in me for the rest of my life. You went to bat for me in a way that every single nurse in this world should for each patient regardless of sex, race and insurance. Kudos to you for being the best nurse that I have seen. This is just you, Katelyn. My super nurse!"

MountainView Hospital is the first hospital in Nevada to conduct a Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), a new minimally-invasive intervention for patients suffering from AFib treatment. The procedure was done by Dr. Niuton Koide, Las Vegas Heart Associates, and Dr. Erik Sirulnick, Nevada Cardiology Associates, in the MountainView Hospital catherization lab. PFA is a technology that uses electrical pulses to kill targeted cardiac muscle cells, creating scar tissue that blocks the faulty electrical signals that cause atrial fibrillation, commonly referred to as AFib. In treating AFib, pulsed field ablation utilizes a controlled electric field to selectively ablate cardiac tissue that is causing irregular heartbeats. This new treatment method has been shown to minimize the risk of damage to surrounding tissues. This is because pulsed field ablation disables cardiac cells using electricity rather than extreme temperatures used in the traditional approaches. Congratulations to the MountainView Cath Lab team for bringing this innovative procedure to our patients!
