It's been three years since the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. Today we remember the efforts made by Americans in evacuating our Afghan partners and their families. Many continue to work to help them evacuate Afghanistan and transition to new lives in the United States. The Moral Compass Federation and Rule20 continue to provide a safe outlet for those who continue to carry the burden of Moral Injury.

As conditions may force the U.S. to reduce troop levels or conduct a total withdrawal of forces from Iraq and Syria, it is critical that we keep the promise to our allies who served the U.S. mission at great personal risk. Today, No One Left Behind is joining 20 leading civil society organizations in calling on the Biden Administration to address the risks faced by our Iraqi, Syrian and other local national allies employed by or on behalf of the United States in the planning of any potential future withdrawal of U.S. or international forces from Iraq and Syria. Let’s all observe a moment of prayerful silence today in remembrance of the thirteen American service members and roughly 200 Afghan allies and civilians who lost their lives in the Abbey Gate bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan three years ago today. In addition to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, many more - like our friends Tyler Vargas Andrews and Doc Aiden Gundy - had their lives forever changed. The last deaths of the global war on terror will certainly leave a mark in the fabric of time, as well as the lives of all of those left to carry the torch.
