Are the good vibes back?
Reporting about African tech over 18 months has felt tedious. The startup showcases and ideas and people at meet-ups and hangouts have felt uninspiring, if not outrightly dull. Aspirants aping the pre-2022 success stories, scraping the bottom pot without spark. OGs muddling through, bank statements blinking red.
It is beginning to *feel good again, I think. Moonshot by TechCabal was evidence of not just enthusiasm but actual hunger. Casual observers and paid professionals are convinced many African problems — energy, transportation, commerce, food delivery — can be solved using technology. I agree.
Different thinking is needed, away from the FOMO-fueled rush that led to Dash-d dreams. But there is a will for Different, I think, and so there will likely be a way.
So here's 🥂 to Tomiwa Aladekomo and Olanrewaju Odunowo (CPSP) and Olumuyiwa Olowogboyega and Fu'ad Lawal. Et al.
Thank you. That felt good.
Do it again.
