The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) is a regional educational service agency that provides a vast array of effective and efficient services that meet the educational and social service needs of Montgomery County’s 200-plus schools, including the 22 public school districts, more than 150 nonpublic schools, four career-technical schools, three charter schools, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Services are provided through nine offices: Business Services; Community and Government Relations; Executive Director; Early Childhood Services; Human Resources; Professional Learning; PaTTAN; Technology Services; Student Services.   • Last week, our Pre-K Counts students were excited to witness the hatching of duck eggs in their classroom! Thanks to the generosity of Quiver Farms, who provided incubators, food, and heat lamps, the students learned firsthand about farm life and the care involved in raising newborn animals. While saying goodbye to our feathered friends was tough, the experience was unforgettable for everyone involved.   • Last week, MCIU had the privilege of hosting national speaker and renowned author Dr. Ayanna Cooper, a former U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist. Dr. Cooper shared valuable insights on empowering school leaders with actionable strategies to advocate for the civil rights of multilingual learners. Participants engaged with key questions on English language development, explored EL program models, and discussed strategies for overcoming language challenges. They also learned about professional learning methodologies and how to build collaborative relationships with linguistically diverse communities. Thank you to everyone who attended this impactful event!

  • Our K-6 students at MCIU Early Learning Academy recently celebrated the first-ever Apple Fest! They had a blast taste-testing and ranking different apple varieties, hand-painting apple-themed crafts, and decorating tasty apple treats with a variety of delicious toppings.
