Last week, our Pre-K Counts students were excited to witness the hatching of duck eggs in their classroom! Thanks to the generosity of Quiver Farms, who provided incubators, food, and heat lamps, the students learned firsthand about farm life and the care involved in raising newborn animals. While saying goodbye to our feathered friends was tough, the experience was unforgettable for everyone involved. Last week, MCIU had the privilege of hosting national speaker and renowned author Dr. Ayanna Cooper, a former U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist. Dr. Cooper shared valuable insights on empowering school leaders with actionable strategies to advocate for the civil rights of multilingual learners. Participants engaged with key questions on English language development, explored EL program models, and discussed strategies for overcoming language challenges. They also learned about professional learning methodologies and how to build collaborative relationships with linguistically diverse communities. Our K-6 students at MCIU Early Learning Academy recently celebrated the first-ever Apple Fest! They had a blast taste-testing and ranking different apple varieties, hand-painting apple-themed crafts, and decorating tasty apple treats with a variety of delicious toppings.
