If your child is passionate about drawing, building, or creating, unlock their creative potential at one of MODA's Summer Design Camps! During week-long camps from June 3rd to July 26th, campers ages 6 to 18 will use their creativity to re-imagine the built environment while learning about sustainable design, public art, smart cities, and more. Who was Jane Jacobs? She was an urbanist, activist, and writer, perhaps best known for her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities." She challenged conventional trends in urban planning, emphasized community-driven development, and contributed to our current understanding of sustainable urban environments. Now, the first weekend of every May, Jacobs' legacy is honored with Jane's Walk: an annual global festival of free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities. Jane's Walk promotes civic engagement, and it connects leaders and participants as they walk together, sharing the stories of different communities. The best part? Anyone can lead a walk! What are the secrets to building a forty-year career in illustration? How can drawing shape one’s success in the fields of art and design? For the answers to these questions, we recommend seeking the advice of an expert, and we’re making it easy. In partnership with Miami Ad School, we'll be hosting California-based illustrator Craig Frazier for a Design Conversation tomorrow, February 21. He’ll discuss the twists and turns of his four decades in design while showing examples of his work and talking about his new book, “Drawn.” Afterwards, he will sign copies of “Drawn” (available for purchase in MODA’s DESIGN SHOP) while visiting with attendees. We live in an age of ambiguity. Confronting the unknown is part of our daily lives, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. So how can we learn to embrace ambiguity? How can we leverage it to create new opportunities? On Wednesday, February 7th, join us at the museum for the next session of Catalyst: a series for those who are passionate about design and the ways in which it can change their lives. We’ll dive into the Stanford d.school book “Navigating Ambiguity” in a hands-on workshop facilitated by our friends at The Mount Vernon School. We’ll begin with an introduction to the book before discussing its main ideas hearing from others who use ambiguity to make positive changes to their lives and careers. Last weekend we opened our latest exhibition, Please Be Seated: A Century of Chair Design, in partnership with Switch Modern, Dolce&Gabbana Casa, and Cartessa Design. The exhibit covers more than 150 years of chair design and explores the stories behind exquisite pieces of furniture by designers Eileen Gray, Ron Brad, Phillippe Stark, Verner Panton, Paola Lenti, and more! Please Be Seated also examines Shirley Chisholm's iconic statement, "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair," with an interactive activity that asks visitors to think about chairs as symbols of space, identity, and empowerment.
