Preorder Your 30th Anniversary Edition Mitchell Institute Sea Bag by Oct. 20! To mark our 30th anniversary in 2025, the Mitchell Institute has teamed up with Sea Bags to offer a special, limited-edition bag bearing the Mitchell Institute’s signature branding and colors. Nearly half the proceeds from each bag sold will directly support Mitchell Scholars. Each Sea Bag is meticulously designed, sewn, and finished by skilled Maine craftspeople, and is made with beautiful and rugged sailcloth that will stand up to years of use. The interior features a patch with Senator Mitchell’s guiding tenet, along with the names of all Maine public high schools where Mitchell Scholarships have been awarded annually since 1995. Gala 2024 set several Mitchell Institute records, including the highest number of event sponsors, attendees, and dollars raised to support Mitchell Scholars. For Deklin Fitzgerald, a 2022 Mitchell Scholar from Oceanside High School and a junior media studies major at the University of Southern Maine, receiving a Mitchell Institute Fellowship made possible an 11-day photographic tour of Ireland this past summer. Where might a Mitchell Institute Fellowship take you? The fall Fellowship application period is open now through midnight, November 1. (This application round is for activities that will take place between December and May of this academic year.) The Mitchell Institute Fall Fellowships application period is NOW OPEN! Mitchell Institute Fellowships are financial awards of up to $1,500 — over and above the Scholarship — that are available to both current Mitchell Scholars and Alumni for a broad range of activities, such as unpaid or underpaid internships; travel or accommodation costs associated with professional or personal development opportunities (internships, conferences, career-related service projects, study-abroad opportunities, etc.); and professional license fees and examination fees for tests like the LSAT/MCAT/GRE and Praxis. These are just some examples. The Fall Fellowship application period closes at midnight on Nov. 1. We’re so proud to have Mitchell Institute Scholarship Director Casey Near (center) invited to join Maine partners in helping high school seniors understand the potential of college scholarships and define their paths to college at the annual Olympia Snowe Women's Leadership Institute Fall Forum today! It’s great to see Lily Bailey, the 2023 Mitchell Scholar from Spruce Mountain High School and sophomore Leadership for Sustainable Development major at Saint Joseph's College, featured in Bold Journey, the online magazine that celebrates “the stories, experiences and insights of our neighbors, friends and peers” as “the most relevant and authentic sources of wisdom.” “I was born with a physical disability,” Lily tells Bold Journey. “For a while, I was ashamed of that, but now I realize it’s the fuel I need to change the world.” Check out the interview to learn how Lily is already making a difference by co-founding the Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Disability Awareness Club with, she says, "the mission of raising awareness for accessibility issues across all Maine academic communities by shining light on all variations of disabilities." https://lnkd.in/e4Vd27Ei
