Thursday night football is back, and we asked Eric, our Chef and Manager of Nutrition Services, to discuss how proper nutrition is just as important in recovery as it is in football. Eric says, “You can’t work out your mental space without the right nutrition. In order for us to function, to heal, and get better, you have to have the right nutrition.” He talked about how food is fuel for our bodies, and how people sometimes come into treatment having developed an unhealthy relationship with food. Eric says, “Sometimes I see people overindulging. Discipline is the byproduct of vision, and if you have a vision for your life, it disciplines you on how you eat.” As our patients continue their recovery journeys by doing the hard work in their therapy sessions, it’s rewarding to see them develop a renewed sense of self-care, discipline, and even a new relationship with food. If your loved one is vegan or vegetarian, Eric and his team have daily options available. #MillwoodCares #ArlingtonTX

Football season is back, so we asked Stephanie, our Patient Advocate, “How is using your voice in recovery similar to football?” Stephanie says, “Coming to treatment and using your voice is very similar, because the team doesn’t know what’s happening if we’re not voicing it. Using your voice empowers you and your treatment team to make the right plays. It puts you in the right direction for your recovery, your mental health, and for what you’re going to do when you leave Millwood.” By speaking up about your needs, it allows your treatment team to make the right adjustments to your treatment, your medication, counseling goals, and even your discharge plan! Stephanie is a certified Nursing Assistant, and she’s been on our team for just over a year. If your loved one is in treatment with us, make it a point to connect with Stephanie! She can facilitate communication and assist your loved one on their journey to wellness. #MillwoodCares #ArlingtonTX

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. We use this month to shift public perception, spread hope, and share vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. If you or someone you know needs support now, call or text 988, or start a chat at 988Lifeline.org. The 988 Suicide and Crisis hotline will connect you with a trained crisis counselor who can help. #SPM24 #BeThere #HeroforZero

Reaching out for help isn’t always easy. Although the stigma surrounding mental health services has been improving, many still avoid them. From fears of cost to lack of trust in healthcare providers, there are still many concerns when it comes to mental health support. Branches Midtown, formerly the Excel Center of Midtown, is here to demystify these concerns. We have identified some of the most common reasons people avoid mental health outpatient programs – and provided guidance on how to overcome them.
