In #Michigan, the U.S. Departments of Energy and Labor are piloting a new certified workforce training program to prepare workers for high-tech jobs in battery plants. Named the Battery Workforce Initiative, this program is designed to support the auto industry's shift to electric vehicles. The U.S. National Science Foundation has announced funding to create a Regional Anchor for the NSF Convergence Accelerator in the Midwest. This Anchor will implement the program model and manage daily operations for the region. The NSF is expanding its Convergence Accelerator from a single national initiative to 10 regionally focused programs. These regional accelerators are designed to boost national and regional competitiveness in research, innovation, and workforce development. Additionally, they will address critical societal and economic challenges specific to their geographic areas, ensuring that the benefits of the NSF Convergence Accelerator are distributed more broadly across the country.
