During Digital Inclusion Week we have another milestone to highlight from our MI High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI)! They work hard to create a more digitally equitable Michigan where everyone can leverage technology to improve their quality of life. MIHI launched the Michigan’s Inclusive Training, Technology and Equity Network (MITTEN) program to create a statewide Digital Navigator Resource Network. This will establish digital navigators who can point community members to online resources, low-cost devices, digital literacy training and other digital inclusion-related needs, online classes or self-guided tutorials. The Michigan Office of Rural Prosperity shared details on the new Rural Readiness Network during an insightful roundtable event with Tony Pipa, Center for Sustainable Development at The Brookings Institution. The discussion connected rural communities to resources and facilitated peer learning and collaboration. There was enthusiasm for this initiative from the group and a desire to further integrate it with existing programs and partnerships! Tony Pipa provided an insightful overview of the federal resources and programs available for rural development, as well as the challenges rural communities face in accessing and navigating these resources due to capacity constraints. Attendees shared overviews of their organizations and the work they are doing to support rural communities, from technical assistance and capacity building to community development and economic revitalization. Overall, the conversation highlighted the complexity of the challenges facing rural Michigan, but also the wealth of expertise, creativity and dedication among the organizations represented. The conversation was also reflective of the Office of Rural Prosperity’s interagency approach around the most prominent rural needs and its commitment to building long-term prosperity across the state. We look forward to future impactful discussions with our partners and communities!
