We are excited to announce we have a new Board Chair, Erik Barefield! Erik has been a strong supporter of MFS for almost 30 years, joining our young leaders board, now called MLAB, in 1995, and becoming a Governing Board Member in 2002. He is a Senior Managing Director, Head of Traditional Investment Management at Mesirow. We take this opportunity to thank Erik and Mesirow for their partnership with us!
Happy Halloween! Our HQ staff held a department costume contest today as we enjoyed some candy and laughs! We also held a paint and sip at our HQ office this week to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos! Thank you to everyone who participated and a special thank you to Jaqui Arte for leading the activity. We had so much fun!

Our Calumet Center's monthly food distribution had some special guest volunteers lend a helping hand during last month's event. Members of MFS' Governance Board joined local volunteers and Calumet staff to pack and distribute hundreds of bags of groceries for community members. This week, our Calumet Center hosted the Purple Hat Brunch, marking 10 years of the center shining awareness on Domestic Violence (DV). The event included speeches from two DV survivors who emphasized the theme of Heal, Hold & Center which embraces the many cultural ways we can heal from violence and oppression, commit to holding space for survivors, and center those most marginalized in all our efforts to end domestic violence.
