About us
Mesabi Metallics is constructing a cutting-edge, fully integrated mining-to-steel complex in Nashwauk, Minnesota. This includes a 7-million ton per year taconite mine, a captive 1.8-million metric ton per year Direct Reduction (DR) iron pelletization facility, and a 1.5-million metric ton per year green steel mill. This transformative initiative, situated at the former Butler mine site closed 35 years ago, marks the first fully integrated green steel project in North America. The pelletizing facility—more than 50 percent complete—represents a record-breaking investment in Minnesota. Mesabi Metallics has already invested more than $1.6 billion and completed over 3 million man-hours on the project.
