Africa’s youth population is rapidly growing, and the digital economy is set to play a critical role in shaping their future. But with the continent leading in youth unemployment, how can we ensure these young people are not left behind? In partnership with Fonbnk, we launched a “Learn-to-Earn” (LTE) program in Uganda focused on financial and web3 literacy. This pilot aimed to equip underserved youth with the tools to participate in Africa’s burgeoning digital economy. The results were promising: ▫ 88% course completion rate among participants. ▫ An average of USD$14 in additional monthly income for market makers. ▫ 80% of participants reported increased income. Our latest report delves into these insights, showcasing how web3 can unlock new economic opportunities for African youth. Thrilled to share insights on how Mercy Corps Ventures is driving climate resilience innovation in Latin America. Our work is highlighted in this ImpactAlpha article, showcasing the critical role of early-stage investment in building resilient communities. With a growing presence in Latin America, we’ve invested in three new local climate tech innovations this year: Popular Power in Mexico, Satellites on Fire in Argentina, and Ábaco in El Salvador. These companies join Verqor in Mexico and Fibrazo in Colombia as part of our portfolio of climate solutions in Latam, all of which are addressing region-specific climate challenges. As we gear up for our second Climate Venture Lab call of proposals, focused on AI for climate resilience, we're also developing a taxonomy to guide investors in navigating early-stage climate solutions. Daniel Block, Investment Partner at MCV, shares: "In regions where the effects of climate change are most acute, our investments focus on scalable solutions that can deliver meaningful, lasting impact. Latin America presents unique opportunities to pioneer these climate resilience strategies." The severity of today’s humanitarian crises is challenging traditional models of #HumanitarianAssistance We’re launching a Humanitarian Venture Lab to help improve and ensure aid delivery for those who need it most, starting with a focus on exploring how #Blockchain and #Crypto might add value within such complex operating environments. https://lnkd.in/e_We-zbD Particularly in conflict zones, humanitarian access is increasingly limited and, in some cases, deliberately and actively obstructed. Against a backdrop of growing insecurity, it has become harder and harder to reach local communities and organizations with aid during critical times when it’s needed most. We’re piloting stablecoin transfers to better deliver humanitarian aid during an ongoing conflict, ensuring our local partners on the ground can safely access funds.
