  • As we celebrate Pride Month, our employees are sharing their stories on what Pride means to them and how their perspectives positively impact the Memorial Hermann experience. Adaora’s journey to self-acceptance has been an important part of their growth as a person and a professional. “My identity shapes a lot of the experiences that I have as a Black, gay person,” they say. “I experience the world through that lens and it’s not something that I can ever remove. Accepting myself wholly and fully has made me a person who is simply not afraid to stand in their truth.” Through their experiences, they learned the importance of visibility and acceptance for building community. That’s why they believe in recognizing the unique needs of every person to provide high quality care at Memorial Hermann. In their role as a patient access representative, they guide patients on appointments, insurance benefits and more to ensure patients get appropriate care. “Because there is a unique lens that I experience the world through, I am able to empathize even more with folks from different walks of life,” they say. “Specifically in health care, I feel like I can identify the needs of others a little more precisely. I think me just being myself also makes others who are also in the community feel comfortable expressing their needs.”

  • Lemone has been recognized as one of the Texas Nurses Association's 25 Outstanding Texas Nurses for 2024. Thank you for the impact you have had on those around you and the nursing profession. As someone who loves education and being a preceptor, Lemone wanted to provide her colleagues with the right tools and resources to succeed. Lemone's role as the night resource education specialist at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital helps address educational gaps and promote staff development. Since joining in 2020, Lemone has spearheaded initiatives such as night security mock drills to enhance workplace safety and collaborated on mock rapid response and code drills to prepare staff for emergency situations. Additionally, Lemone leads the Code Lilac peer support group and serves as the student placement coordinator, fostering relationships with academic partners to provide valuable clinical experience for future health care professionals. "This award is an extreme honor not only for me but for the team of dedicated and passionate nursing educators, leaders and staff at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital," she says. "It is refreshing to be reminded that the work we do as nurses not only affects how we perform in helping save lives but also how it positively influences us as nurses to elevate our practice, be innovative and encourages us to remember why we chose nursing." #Nursing #Texas #Leadership

  • June 19th—Juneteenth—marks the day in 1865 when all enslaved people in the U.S. were effectively freed. As we pause to reflect on the legacy of this day, employees and members of the Black Organizational Leadership and Development (BOLD) Employee Resource Group are sharing their perspectives on what it means to them. John, director of care redesign & operational excellence, says the day reminds him not to take the values of freedom and justice for granted, and to continue working toward equity. “Juneteenth serves as an important reminder that ‘liberty and justice for all’ is an ongoing pursuit,” he says. “It honors the sacrifices made by the many before us, so that we might have opportunities to contribute to causes of our choosing, and it is a reminder of our charge to continue coaching, mentoring and supporting each other in the pursuit of equity.” #Juneteenth #EmployeeHighlight
