About us

The Minnesota Department of Human Rights is the state’s civil rights enforcement agency. We are charged with enforcing the Minnesota Human Rights Act, one of the strongest civil rights laws in the country. We use the full power of the Minnesota Human Rights Act to create a world where everyone can lead lives full of dignity and joy, free from discrimination. The Minnesota Human Rights Act tasks the Department with three main duties: 1. Investigate Charges of Discrimination 2. Equity and Inclusion for State Contracting 3. Education and Outreach The Minnesota Human Rights Act was written for times like this – times when racism, transphobia, ableism, antisemitism, sexual harassment, and so many other forms of discrimination are pervasive and persistent.
