We're thrilled to share that Bard High School Early College has been named ENR MidAtlantic's Project of the Year!   In addition to this top honor, Bard also won Best K-12 Education Project! Raymond Elementary School was also awarded Best Project in the Renovation/Restoration category. Both projects were recognized as two of only three finalists for Project of the Year.   Bard offers students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an Associate degree, with the project's design focusing on sustainability and community connection. We're excited to kick off Blueprint Schools Phase II for Prince George's County Public Schools, starting with the first three groundbreaking ceremonies for Brent Elementary School, Robert Frost K-8 School, and Templeton Elementary School!   As part of this transformative public-private partnership, MCN will build and deliver eight new schools, providing state-of-the-art, sustainable learning environments for the county. This morning, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Robert Frost K-8 School in New Carrollton with Prince George's County Public Schools. Education is one of our most essential investments, which is why we work tirelessly to provide quality school buildings for our children. Through Phase 2 of our innovative Alternative Construction Program, we’ve broken ground on 8 new schools, furthering our commitment to our young people. It is a Proud Priority of the Alsobrooks Administration to deliver the types of learning environments our students deserve. #DGSDelivers – We're excited to announce the completion of the Garfield ES $60.5 million modernization! This project transformed 70,300 sqft into a vibrant, sustainable learning environment for 363 students. This school is just one of the six modernizations DGS delivered this summer – representing over $400 million in modernizations and renovations; thanks to Mayor Bowser’s investments and commitment to education and improving DC’s building infrastructure. Designed with the future in mind, with sustainability features like geothermal wells, bio-retention areas, stormwater management, and flexible and open classrooms for learning, Garfield ES received a major transformation! The historic building is a vibrant learning space that includes Ward 8's first teaching kitchen, new gym, and inspiring public art commissioned through the DGS Percent for Art program; DGS is proud to deliver a space where students can succeed. This morning, we held the ribbon cutting ceremony for Garfield Elementary School. The Department of General Services, MCN Build and Studios Architecture came together to bring Mayor Muriel Bowser and DCPS’s vision to reality. James A. Garfield Elementary is the first public school designed by an African American architect (William Sidney Pittman) in DC. We completely modernized the historically deemed 1909 wing, a second wing built in 1956, and added 25000 GSF of all new space. From design to construction, we have completely changed the game. This school is also one of the first to be modernized with an early childhood development center, where families with kids 6-24 months now have access to daycare year-round. Everything in this space is sustainable, equitable, and intentionally crafted to create a safe space to learn and grow. Since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with man made marvels. I would sit in my room as a kid, drawing plans for big cities, and one of my favorite things to create was schools. Growing up, I spent the end of every the summer helping my parents and set up their classrooms for the year. As a product of public schools and the son of 20+ year public school educators, I don’t care what color, gender, or political view.. there is nothing more important than the investments in our community and education. In this state of the art facility, I wish these young scholars much love and success. I send BIG BIG love to the admin, faculty, and staff that will grow and pour into these kids.
