Great opportunity for MA-based manufacturers working with non-profit partners to scale their operations and add jobs or reskill/upskill on new processes. Massachusetts Technology Collaborative is holding a webinar 10/16 if you're interested in learning more. Details below.
OPPORTUNITY ALERT! https://cam.masstech.org/ Manufacturing is having a moment in the U.S. and right here in Massachusetts And yes, October is officially Manufacturing Month. And yes, October 4th was officially Manufacturing Day. But the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative is here to make sure that momentum for manufacturing in Massachusetts lasts beyond a moment, a day, or a month! Just last week we joined Allium Engineering, a recent Massachusetts Manufacturing Accelerate Program (#MMAP) grant awardee, who is leveraging the funding through a partnership with MassMEP to open a pilot production facility in Billerica. Steven Jepeal (aka The Pride of Billerica) was introduced to the program through Activate. Since 2022, MMAP has awarded $13.9 million to support projects with 53 Massachusetts-based manufacturers. The program is here to help MA-based manufacturers working with non-profit partners to scale their operations and add jobs or reskill/upskill on new processes. We've seen a number of early-stage companies supported by quasi-colleagues the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and MassVentures looking to grow and scale in the state participate. Building on MMAP, we launched the Manufacturing Cybersecurity Program (#MCP) to further help MA-based manufacturers by helping to enhance their cybersecurity infrastructure to meet requirements from customers, strengthen the security of their networks and allow them to enter additional markets. We just launched the latest rounds of both programs last week and encourage any organizations interested in learning more about the program to attend our webinar on 10/16! Let's keep the manufacturing momentum going!

REMINDER – The deadline to apply for an Acorn Innovation Grant is this Friday, October 11th. Principal Investigators at Massachusetts research institutions seeking to demonstrate the viability of their technology should apply now. Navine Nasser-Ghodsi and Neil Marya at UMass Chan Medical School won last year to further the development of a real-time artificial intelligence (AI) system to improve diagnostic accuracy of cholangiocarcinoma. “Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a malignancy of the bile ducts associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Current diagnostic tools have low sensitivity and accuracy which delays diagnosis and partly explains why a minority of patients are offered curative therapy. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology can improve the diagnosis of CCA by analyzing videos from cholangioscopy – a technique that allows for direct visualization of the biliary tree. Pilot work suggests cholangioscopy AI technology increases accuracy in characterizing a biliary stricture as benign or malignant compared to traditional sampling modalities. We developed a cholangioscopy AI system to provide an interpretation as to whether biliary cancer is present and also developed a novel medical device capable of performing real-time, on-premise model predictions that are integrated with the clinical workflow during endoscopy. Our group performed a prospective clinical trial evaluating the clinical performance of the real-time cholangioscopy AI system. We demonstrated that the real-time cholangioscopy AI is more accurate than current sampling modalities for classifying biliary strictures as benign or malignant. We are continuing to enroll patients to further validate the performance of the AI.” Don’t miss out on the opportunity to further your research with a $32,500 Acorn grant. Apply by October 11 - https://lnkd.in/df2vHVtw Priya Yadav

Apply now for an Acorn Innovation Grant, open to Principal Investigators at Massachusetts research institutions. Up to 10 awards ($32,500 each) will be granted. Read how recent winners Connor Verheyen and Ellen Roche at MIT used their Acorn award to further their research: “Most medical technologies rely on 20th-century manufacturing paradigms like standardization and mass-production. However, humans are anything but standardized. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all healthcare. Our team is pioneering a transcatheter manufacturing platform to assemble patient-specific medical devices directly inside the patient’s own body. Instead of using factory benchtops to mass-produce one-size-fits-all devices, we will use each patient’s unique 3D anatomy as a template to generate a personalized solution at the point of care. For our first application, we are particularly interested in intracardiac defects because 1) they are difficult to reach and 2) they display high patient-to-patient variability. Our approach enables on-demand formation of intracardiac implants that match each patient’s unique anatomy in a same-day minimally-invasive procedure. The MassVentures Acorn grant accelerated our project by allowing us to address both technical and non-technical challenges early on. During our grant execution phase, we enhanced our understanding of the market, refined our testbeds, and improved our working prototype. We also established the feasibility of our novel approach in diverse patient anatomies on the benchtop. After completing the Acorn grant, our team was well-positioned to secure additional funding to reach the next stage of preclinical development and validation.” Applications are due OCTOBER 11. REMINDER! The deadline to submit an application for a Catalyst or DICES Grant is Monday, September 30th. These programs, administered jointly by Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and MassVentures, are amazing opportunities for researchers and early-stage companies at TRL 2-4 looking to demonstrate initial prototypes of their climate technologies. Recent Catalyst winner Timothy Mui reflects here on how the grant helped his team at Seia Bio. "Seia Bio is on a mission to feed the planet safely and sustainably by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers with the use of beneficial microbes, akin to probiotics for the earth. The MassCEC Catalyst program started during the application process where experts and judges helped to develop our business and provided their insights. The program has also helped connect us with a vast network of partners, expert local market and policy leaders to help us grow in the Commonwealth, including the Regional Clean Energy Innovation Showcase. With the support of the MassCEC Catalyst program, we were able to accelerate out of the lab to continue building and demonstrating real-world use cases using our products. This has enabled us to build more partnerships and accelerate our journey to help decarbonize agriculture." If you are a researcher or early-stage company focused on clean energy and would like to gain access to a vast network of partners, expert local market and policy insights, and mentoring from MassCEC and MassVentures, not to mention a grant of up to $75K, apply before the September 30th deadline at https://lnkd.in/ex_a3S2Z.
