Today we celebrate National Nonprofit Day! Let's take a moment to recognize the enormous impact that all non-profits make in our community. The nonprofit sector impacts every resident across Massachusetts. According to the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN), there are more than 38,000 nonprofits in our state, that are committed to educating us, keeping us healthy, supporting our most vulnerable populations, and caring for our cultural, historical, and environmental treasures. Our nonprofit sector is also a major economic driver in our state, employing nearly 20% of the state's workforce. A major thank you to all nonprofit workers for their dedication and life-changing work! As a nonprofit and a coalition member of Massachusetts’ 12 Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs), we pioneer the most promising, leading-edge ways that help victims of child abuse receive the best possible care. Our work enables an integrated, multidisciplinary team response to child abuse, and is committed to strengthening collaboration and driving systemic and societal change to protect children. Regionally since 2016 we have seen a 35% annual increase in referrals for online or commercial sexual exploitation to the Children's Advocacy Centers at the Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, and Children's Cove: The Cape and Islands Child Advocacy Center for children at risk of, or who have been, sexually exploited commercially or online. This is an issue which is not going away, and is only becoming more complex. Thank you Patrick Flanary for taking some time to talk with me about this critical issue for WCAI-FM. https://lnkd.in/eyENgJ9S

MACA invites you to join us for the VOCA Bridge Digital Advocacy Week! VOCA (Victims of Child Abuse Act) funding supports services for victims - child and adult - of all types of crimes - child abuse, human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Federally, VOCA funding has been steadily decreasing since FY18 and is at a historical low. Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance and the entire victim services field here in Massachusetts are advocating for VOCA Bridge Funding in the state budget to mitigate significantly reduced federal funding to victim services through the Crime Victims Fund (CVF). We urge the legislature to complete the VOCA Bridge with the $20 million needed to sustain victim services. You can help us advocate too! Contact your state representative and state senator and urge them to pass Bill H.4496. Thank you to everyone who joined us last week at our 14th Annual Conference. It was truly one to remember and we are so grateful to everyone who made this day possible. We would like to personally thank Jimmy Widdifield, Jr. for a stellar keynote presentation, as well as all of the workshop presenters who joined us for such an empowering and educational day. This day wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our conference planning committee. They volunteered their free time during their busy workdays to support our conference efforts. We are so appreciative! And lastly, a major thank you to all of our conference sponsors! Your support enables us to continue our mission driven work to end child abuse. #annualconference #childabuseawareness #childabuseprevention #training #education

Yesterday, the #SuffolkCAC team gathered at the Massachusetts State House Grand Staircase for the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance Victim Rights Month Awards Ceremony to watch our very own Support to End Exploitation Now (SEEN) Program Manager, Sheelah Gobar, receive the Advocate of the Year Award. Sheelah is an incredibly deserving candidate, and our CAC has the pleasure of knowing first-hand what a difference she makes in the lives of the young people referred to SEEN, and what a dedicated colleague and leader she is to our team. Throughout her tenure, Sheelah has coordinated the response to more than 600 referrals for high-risk and exploited youth. She actively strives to amplify survivor voices, builds strong multidisciplinary teams, and ensures streamlined coordination and creative collaboration – so every young person can access essential care and engage in their own unique healing. Sheelah has been instrumental in enhancing SEEN’s response to missing youth, and she elevates best practices at the state and national levels. What sets Sheelah apart is her unparalleled conviction and steadfast passion to advocate for the most vulnerable. She is highly motivated to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed support to the most marginalized in our community and possesses vast reserves of empathy. Sheelah has the unique ability to listen wholly to the perspectives and experiences of others—clients and colleagues alike— and to uplift and celebrate their contributions. Sheelah is an inspiration and a role model, and we are so fortunate to have her on our team! Congratulations to all awardees honored during yesterday's ceremony! We are fortunate to have such amazing people working within victim services throughout the Commonwealth. Thank you, fellow advocates and #MassMova, for the hard work you do for survivors every single day and the passion you put into your work! 💙 #ChildAdvocacy #ChildProtection #ChildSafety #SuffolkCounty #SuffolkCAC #ChildrensAdvocacyCenter #MassMOVAAward #AdvocatedOfTheYear #Advocacy
