Walktober Tip of the Week: Look Up and Look Out! Fall brings less daylight, which means more pedestrians will be out when there’s low visibility. When driving, watch out for pedestrians, and when walking, stay visible with light or reflective clothing. #WalktoberMD2024 #MDOTSafety

Drivers behind the wheel of our school buses, snowplows, tractor-trailers, and any vehicle requiring a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are a vital part of our economy. A big thank you to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for investing in Maryland to help increase the number of highly-qualified CDL Drivers. Today, our federal partners announced grants to help support CDL truck driver training programs at the Community College of Baltimore County, Cecil College, and Wor-Wic Community College. Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration also received grant funding to translate the CDL manual and all CDL knowledge tests into plain language. The MVA is also joining more than 20 states to offer the CDL test in Spanish. Watch FMCSA’s press conference: https://lnkd.in/eB2sjMrE

MDOT Assistant Secretary Joe McAndrew on Tuesday joined the Maryland Clean Energy Summit in College Park. He spoke of Maryland's electrification and decarbonization efforts. “It’s a new day for transportation,” he said. “And it has to be when it comes to climate and renewable energy.” The Maryland Department of Transportation is actively working to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and increase renewable energy development. First, through electrification, MDOT is helping support the state’s rapid transition to EVs. We're working to build out Maryland's EV charging infrastructure with National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funding. Also, the Department is moving forward with strategic planning to build electric chargers along the I-95 corridor for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. And it is pursuing a federal grant with several states to plan and deploy alternative fueling and charging infrastructure along the I-81 and I-78 corridors for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
