We are so proud of our Mariposa Volando (Flying Butterfly) and graduate, Kenia. She is taking advantage of all academic and extracurricular opportunities at UWC Thailand and is absolutely loving her time there!

Summer is a special time at The Mariposa Center for Girls. Not only is it a wonderful culmination of the year’s programs, it’s when our staff, volunteers and students spend the most time together simply enjoying a safe space where girls can just be girls. We are only 1 week into Mariposa Summer Camp and everyone is having too much fun! The Mariposa girls have spent the past week mountain biking, practicing yoga, surfing, reading, boogie boarding, learning English, playing volleyball, training in first aid courses, and so much more. We are extending a huge congratulations and felicidades to Maria Angelica, Mariposa Class of 2022, as she graduated from Culinary School this weekend! Maria Angelica entered Mariposa when she was 8 years old and, just 2 years after graduating from Mariposa, she has completed her degree in culinary school. Maria Angelica is now employed at the Beach Club in Seahorse Ranch in Cabarete. We are so proud of her accomplishments and know she will continue to break glass ceilings for women everywhere.

Please join us in congratulating and celebrating the Mariposa Class of 2024! These resilient young women have overcome every obstacle thrown their way and have graduated from Mariposa programs and high school. All 3 of these young women have each spent a decade at Mariposa and are now seeking professional employment opportunities. We are excited to share our 2023 Annual Report! https://lnkd.in/e3QMgSdH Throughout 2023, we celebrated high school and college graduations, girls traveled overseas to pursue educational opportunities, and we expanded programs where girls can explore their passions and chase their wildest dreams. All the while, one thing remained true: educating and empowering girls is the silver bullet for ending generational poverty. Thank you to our wonderful community for your continued support.

At Mariposa, we love to celebrate, cherish, and protect our Earth, especially this #EarthDay! Environmental programs are an integral part of our programs as Mariposa girls are learning to take pride in their environment while snorkeling, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, hiking, and so much more in their communities. Thank you 11th Hour Racing, Brock Callen, Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding - LEK, Ocean Conservancy, Nell Newman Foundation, Changing Tides Foundation, and Plastic Tides for your invaluable support and involvement in putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do at Mariposa. With their partnership, Mariposa has been entirely plant-based for the past few years and prevented more than 50,000 pounds of trash and plastic from entering our environment. These young women are becoming our world’s future leaders in the fight for climate justice.

We are so honored to be one of these incredible Girls First Fund partners working to end child marriage and early pregnancy on our island and all over the world. Thank you, again, Mabel van Oranje, VOW for Girls, Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage, and Girls First Fund for years of support and dedication to our mission and work. We look forward to many more years of partnership with you all.

As climate change increasingly threatens the world and our island of Hispaniola, we support these powerful female change makers. Women and girls are disproportionately vulnerable to climate change as they are kept out of school to help with domestic chores and take care of their families during natural disasters, causing rates of domestic violence, early marriage, and childbirth to skyrocket. We stand with Project Dandelion and believe in the ripple effect of our combined work in the #GirlMovement.

Happy International Women’s Day to the wonderful women who inspire and uplift us all over the world!
