The event featured experts from the government exploring key issues in those security fields. Featured Speakers: Arun Vemury, Senior Advisor, Biometric and Identity Technology Center, DHS Melissa Conley, Executive Director, Capability Management and Innovation, Requirements and Capabilities Analysis, TSA Alicia Harrison, Branch Chief, System Business Operations (SBO), Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), DHS John D. Leidos is an innovation company rapidly addressing the world’s most vexing challenges in national security and health. The event was very well organized, it was a panel discussion held by the featured speakers who shared their experiences, best practices, and memorable 'aha moments'.” Conversation included some of the challenges the government agencies are facing with biometric technology: • Providing clarity for members of the US Congress to dissipate concerns on the use of collected biometric data by Government Agencies • Funding / budgets for the deployment of identity and biometric devices • Technology advancing extremely fast • Increasing identity recognition distance from 100 meters (328 Feet) to 1,000 meters (3,280 Feet) • Social acceptance of biometrics (Changing overtime) • Implementation of eGates (Laws and passenger appetite), automated border control system which use data stored in a chip along with a photo or fingerprint taken at the time of entering the eGates to verify the passport holder’s identity • Extracting multiple identities from a single scene, i.e., national, and international travelers mixing at an airport shopping area prior to flights departure   The Symposium provided an opportunity to meet and network with people who share a common interest in security, while learning from the speakers and participants’ experiences, and the most recent advances in identity and biometric technologies.

In the United States, warehouse injuries cost employers more than $84 million per week. When considering the financial impact of workplace incidents, it is important to recognize that costs extend beyond insurance and medical bills. In 2018, the National Safety Council reported that the average cost per medically consulted injury was $41,000, while the cost per fatality amounted to $1,190,000. [Damotec, July 28, 2024] Additionally forklifts are responsible for 90% of Pallet Rack Failures Pallet rack failures can result from various factors, including system overload, inadequate maintenance, and collisions with forklifts. In most cases, it stems from a combination of all the above. [Damotec, July 28, 2024] Clearly we need to make changes, and need to make them fast.  (Check out Axis Communications's solution below.)
