Today, we celebrate an incredible milestone! After 40 years of dedication, hard work, and service to the Lynchburg community, Danny Marks is retiring! Danny served 30 years as a police officer, retiring as a Lieutenant. But one career with the Lynchburg Police Department wasn’t enough—he went on to serve another 10 years as an Animal Warden. We want to thank Danny for his unwavering commitment and countless contributions to the betterment of the City of Lynchburg. He has left a lasting impact on everyone here. This month, 7 additional members of your Lynchburg Police Department graduated from Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training. This crucial program brings together local stakeholders from law enforcement, emergency dispatchers, mental health providers, and others. CIT programs enhance community collaboration, develop a stable infrastructure, and provide outstanding training to improve criminal justice and mental health system responses for individuals in crisis. The LPD has over 100 CIT certified officers and staff.    

This week, 10 Lynchburg Police Department recruits graduated from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. We are proud of these aspiring officers, and special congratulations to Recruit Olsen for earning the distinguished Academic Award. These graduates and their classmates awarded Detective Person the Outstanding Instructor Award. Congratulations, Detective Person!
