    When the most successful movie producer of the century decided to double down on TV, it seemed like an easy bet. Marvel Entertainment had already enjoyed TV successes with ABC hit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and shows on Netflix led by Daredevil, though those were produced by a television team largely outside of the purview of Marvel hitmaker Kevin Feige. To support #Disney+, the movie studio took over producing TV shows, bringing its iconic characters to the small screen while introducing new characters to join Marvel’s heroes on the big screen. #WandaVision was an initial success for Disney, but it took over three years to follow up with its spinoff, Agatha All Along. While the smaller-scope show has dropped out of the Top 10 in the Variety Streaming Originals Chart powered by Luminate, it has managed to maintain viewership leading up to the two episode finale released this week.     A corner of entertainment often overlooked in year-end retrospectives is the performance of #standup #comedy specials and the power they hold to launch up-and-coming talent into stardom. In the present media landscape, Netflix holds the crown by a long shot for featuring the most #comedyspecials, having released 38 this year alone. (Second place is Prime Video with seven.) The consumption data provided by Luminate’s Streaming Viewership (M) yields valuable insight into the top performers of this media sector and is an invaluable tool to find the next breakout comedy star.     As we inch closer to the end of 2024, one trend we’ve continued to track at Luminate is the growth of non-English #music and the export power of ex-U.S. territories. One way to highlight the latter is by looking at trends in #streaming share based on artist country of origin. Through the first half of 2024, artists from countries like Mexico, Brazil and France grew their streaming share at the #global level the most. This development reflects a broader shift in the music landscape, where non-English-speaking regions are gaining influence. A key driver of Mexico’s growth is the Regional Mexican #subgenre, which is propelling Mexico’s presence on the global stage and is now the leading #Latin subgenre in the U.S. Artists like Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida and others have played a major role in this surge, capturing the attention of #international audiences.     This summer saw AMC Networks ink a new deal licensing 13 titles to Netflix. This wasn’t a typical licensing deal, as many of these titles were already flagship series on AMC’s own paid streamer, #AMC+. When they arrived on #Netflix on August 19, the titles were given prominent AMC branding, a rare sight in Netflix’s UX. AMC hopes this move will ultimately drive viewers from Netflix’s massive subscriber base back to AMC+ for subsequent seasons, while the pact allows Netflix to offer subscribers quality premium titles without having to front production costs. It seems like a win-win, but what does the data show? Every show AMC licensed to Netflix saw increased viewership when it was licensed to the service. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is a good example of this lift.     This summer — forever to be remembered as “Brat Summer” — Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX and Chappell Roan hit the zeitgeist, and despite their unique sounds, all three women target very similar audiences. What we aim to understand through our data in Luminate’s Artist & Genre Tracker (collected in August 2024) is who their music resonates with as well as how their audiences differ. While Gen Z are Chappell Roan’s largest fan group at 51%, Millennials are Charli XCX’s largest fan group at 35% and Sabrina Carpenter has a strong mix of both groups with 31% Gen Z and 34% Millennial.
