About us
Love Schack Architecture is an architecture & design firm working across the Northern Rocky Mountain region with headquarters in Bozeman, Montana, and Driggs, Idaho. We design healthy, beautiful, and nurturing buildings for our clients, with expertise in passive house design and natural materials. We create healthy, beautiful, and nurturing spaces for our clients, working closely with them as active participants in the process. To us, a successful project is not having to choose between high-performance and aesthetics—we believe you can have both. One of our core beliefs is that buildings are gathering spaces, where we connect with each other and even with nature through the careful use of texture, light, sound, shadow, and openings, which bring indoors a keen awareness of time of year, weather, and seasons. Our designs have an impact; they can improve your quality of life, be regenerative, and be both passive and active. As architects, we feel responsible for the impact buildings have—they are not neutral. To that end, our projects capitalize on all available opportunities to minimize impact on the environment through design, energy calibration, and the use of natural building materials. As Certified Passive House Consultants, we design buildings, both residential and commercial, that not only operate at a net-zero or at a substantially reduced energy load but are always comfortable. We are passionate about our community and civic engagement, and we strive to share our knowledge with others and to inspire people to think about architecture’s intimate relationship to our health and that of the natural world.

Did you know that buildings are responsible for 40% of total energy use in the United States, including 75% of all electricity use and 35% of the nation's carbon emissions? According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), building operations consume approximately 40% of the total energy used in the United States. Love Schack Architecture is committed to designing homes that look beautiful and also contribute to a healthier planet. By embracing Passive House principles, we aim to drastically cut down on fossil fuel use and reduce carbon emissions, ultimately protecting both the environment and the ozone layer. In honor of #WorldOzoneDay, here are the five key principles of Passive House design that guide our work: 1) Solar Orientation: Harnessing natural sunlight to optimize energy efficiency. 2) High Insulation: Ensuring airtightness to keep heat in during winter and out during summer. 3) High-Performance Windows: Specialized windows that minimize heat loss while allowing natural light. 4) Air Tight Enclosure: Eliminating drafts and energy waste. 5) Balanced ventilation with heat recovery: Providing fresh air while recycling indoor heat for ultimate energy efficiency.
